Job Description:

BASIC FUNCTION: The primary goal of the Teacher is to lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, psychological, and physical growth.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: (this list is illustrative and not all-inclusive)

  • Establish and maintain an effective learning environment that aligns with the District's normative culture governing student life and conduct. Take necessary actions to support students' learning while maintaining a safe environment.

  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students and establish a clear objective for all lessons, units, and projects. Communicate with students these goals and objectives in a manner that is goal-directed.

  • Employ a variety of instructional methods and materials. Assist in the selection of books, equipment and materials to support these instructional methods. Plan and prepare for assigned classes in advance.

  • Meet and instruct assigned classes, extra classroom assignments, and other assigned responsibilities in the locations and at the times designated. Accept responsibility for educational activities as assigned.

  • Assess individual accomplishments of students on a regular basis. Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential student records and provide progress reports as required by law, by District policy, and/or building procedures.

  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s), teacher assistant(s), and/or student teachers, volunteer(s), and, in cooperation with the principal or his/her supervisory designee, evaluate their job performance.

  • Collaborate with colleagues, students, and/or parents as appropriate. Seek the assistance of District specialists where and when available.

  • Attend departmental and staff meetings and District professional development as required. Serve on staff committees on a voluntary basis.

  • Adjust to have regular communications with parents/guardians.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or District which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.

  • Knowledge of curricula and concepts in area of certification.

  • Knowledge and understanding of normative culture and restorative practices.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, parents, community and others contacted in the course of work.

  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.

  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.

  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:Must be willing and able to implement the procedures associated with the District's designated crisis intervention program, including the possible use of interventions and/or physical restraint, including the physical strength and mobility necessary to implement same.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year in accordance with the current negotiated agreement.

EVALUATION: Formal evaluation to be in accordance with Board's policy as it applies to the Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
