Applied Research Associates, Inc. Undergraduate Engineer Intern in Raleigh, North Carolina

Description

Applied Research Associates, Inc. is seeking interns to support multiple projects. Our professional software development team has designed and produced software systems ranging from integrated multi-disciplinary design and optimization systems to 3D interactive design/analysis systems, weapons effects and operational mission planning systems, electronic technical manuals, cyber security applications, and multimedia database management systems.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have an active interest in applying math/statistics/engineering concepts to solve multi-disciplinary problems. The candidate should be familiar with improving/optimizing/tuning existing algorithms as well as developing new algorithms from scratch. This position will include design and development of engineering and physics-based methodologies, analytical algorithms, and software tools. The candidate should demonstrate a hands-on approach to problem-solving and must be willing to actively participate in the evaluation of algorithm and system performance.

Required Engineer Intern Qualifications:

  • US Citizenship (Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information).

  • Undergraduate student in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Math, Physics, or a closely related field.

  • A strong interest in developing modeling and simulation software in high-level languages (e.g. C++, Python, Java, etc.).

  • Demonstrated experience going from problem statement to solution using knowledge of math and science.

  • Team player with excellent communication skills.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with modern C++.

  • Interest in DoD modeling and simulation technology, structural dynamics, blast effects, structural collapse, and/or probabilistic analysis..

  • Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written mediums with technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability and desire to quickly learn new domains.

  • Prior / existing security clearance.
