TIH is seeking a Software Engineering Senior Director to join its CRC Technology team. This individual will be responsible for leading the delivery of accounting and related systems.

We are looking for a leader who can design the future accounting strategy for TIH, integrate to the corporate GL and treasury systems, and provide inspirational leadership to the team and lead through change.

This leader will lead one or more teams responsible for technology solutions by working closely with department heads and stakeholders to identify technology needs, establishing best practices, facilitating the prioritization and execution of the roadmap. They will play a pivotal role in guiding technology strategy, managing IT vendor partnerships, and overseeing the process, documentation, training, and implementation of software products. They will leverage emerging technologies and automation to improve business efficiencies, enhance speed-to-market of solution delivery, and support enterprise transformation, risk and operational requirements. This leader will have full management responsibilities for their teammates, including hiring, disciplinary, coaching, terminating, and performance management.

The ideal candidate will bring the knowledge and experience to work in an Agile environment and serve as a champion for Agile practices. Primarily responsible for delivering high-quality working software and automating manual/reusable tasks. Leverage engineering practices to deliver business value. Responsible for oversight of software engineering and unit testing and supporting integration and functional testing. Oversee documentation of the processes, and knowledge transfer to production support. Ensure developed code is in accordance with the acceptance criteria established by the Product Owner.

SCOPE: The differentiating factor between levels of SWE Director is scope, such as size of budget and headcount, and complexity of the business line and related technologies. This role will manage a team of 5 and is considered to be a very hands-on role 25% to 50% involved in activities such as scripting, design, data mapping etc.

Location: Preferred locations are Charlotte or Dallas hybrid model. However, we are open to remote work for the right candidate that is open to occasional travel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Oversee the planning, design, engineering, testing and deployment of accounting projects in conjunction with business and IT partner teams.

  2. Strategically guide teams to seamlessly transition from traditional accounting to new cutting-edge Azure cloud operations, driving optimized scalability and enhanced efficiency to elevate performance and technical advancement.

  3. Support the integration of acquisitions by leveraging a repeatable scalable model.

  4. Partner very closely with the internal departments, third party vendors, Enterprise Architecture, and Information Security teams to deliver a high performing solution.

  5. Manage contracts, licenses, and COTs application performance to SLAs, SLOs and SLIs.

  6. Apply an in-depth understanding of insurance accounting systems and GL administration, Invoicing, Accounts Payables, Accounts Receivables and a basic understanding of other IT disciplines in guiding and coaching team members.

  7. Impact results by supporting the funding of projects, products, services, and/or technologies.

  8. Ability to make decisions in their area of responsibility that help maintainability, reuse, security, and performance.

  9. Ability to diagnose issues and provide solutions for multiple functional and technical areas within a product.

  10. Maintain appropriate Risk Profile through owning the first line of Risk defense, proactively identifying risks, and implementing necessary mitigations where warranted.

  11. Has full management responsibilities for teammates: hiring, disciplinary, coaching, terminating, performance reviews.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor degree and equivalent education and experience, which could include any combination of eight years of experience in IT software engineering, five years’ relevant business experience (i.e. making technical-related decisions on the business side), five years’ experience in project management, and at least two years of management experience.

  2. Broad and in-depth knowledge of technology trends, competitive environment, regulatory requirements and trends, and IT strategies employed to continually meet the demands of clients and regulators.

  3. Ability to translate enterprise level strategic planning information into software and data management needs, create business plans, and turn them into effective business solutions.

  4. Executive level communications skills, including, strong negotiation, facilitation, presentation skills, and experience negotiating with vendors for relevant products and services.

  5. Ability to solve unique and highly complex technical, operational, and organizational problems.

  6. Ability to lead and manage the performance of multiple teams against a set of financial and operational objectives.

  7. Experience managing projects with enterprise-wide implications from conception through implementation.

STRONGLY Preferred Qualifications:

  1. P&C insurance experience, or similar financial services experience, to be able to discuss functions and needs with stakeholders.

  2. Accounting system(s) experience, including standing up new systems, performing major upgrades on existing GLs, and integrating GLs related to M&As.

  3. Understanding of multiple approaches to Software Engineering, including a solid understanding of Agile methodologies.

  4. Experience leading teams in an Agile organization, particularly those practicing DevSecOps, and/or are in transition from traditional waterfall approach to Agile approach.
