This role in summary

Insinkerator is looking for a motivated and self-driven Controls Engineer. The Controls Engineer will lead the development and implementation of control systems that directly support manufacturing. The Controls Engineer works with the sustaining engineering team to establish new practices and support the training and development of resources to help sustain production, with a focus on control systems. The Controls Engineer will work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire life cycle of the processes.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Lead and collaborate with internal/external integrators to develop best practices and engineering standard(s).

  • Service as the control system expertise providing technical expertise

  • Support the development technician(s) to maintain technological superiority (troubleshooting and maintenance) for the production equipment installed.

  • Interface with IT to ensure networking systems are functional, production-safe, and comply with InSinkErator configuration requirements.

  • Provide documentation that supports Automated Manufacturing Processes.

  • Perform design/redesign and troubleshooting of complex applications and equipment involving electrical/electronic circuits and equipment that interfaces with (PC - PC, PLC - PLC, PLC - PC), PC-based HMI software.

  • Set up and troubleshoot motion control systems including Servos and Multi-Axis Systems. Collaborate with vendors during equipment design, build, installation, and start-up. Document and backup wiring/circuit logic and software programs (PC, PLC, robotic, etc.). Support cross-functional team to problem solve and drive to root cause

  • Support project management and project startup

  • Drive continuous improvement to meet or exceed operation objectives and goals

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering

  • 2+ years of experience in automation controls including networking experience (such as ethernet, DeviceNet, ControlNet,.), safety design experience and PLC programming

Preferred skills and experiences

  • 4+ years of experience in automation controls including process management

  • 1+ years of experience with robotic software (such as Fanuc)

  • Good understanding and operation skills of personal computers and associated equipment Effective communicator with strong written and articulation skills

  • Project management and team-building skills

  • Experience with Rockwell software

  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70E and NEC

  • Working knowledge of SQL and Ignition

  • Experience with Vision system (Keyence, Fanuc, and Cognex)

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Fundamental understanding of A/C and D/C electrical circuits and design
