WSP USA Site Health, Safety, Security & Environment Specialist in Questa, New Mexico
This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Site Health, Safety, Security & Environment Specialist for our Questa, NM location. In this role you will support the site team by developing, implementing, monitoring and continuously improving WSP’s health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) programs and procedures. You will ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local regulatory requirements and client policies and procedures. Be involved in projects with our Mining Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Your Impact
Maintain familiarity with client and WSP policies and procedures and develop site specific HSSE programs to meet these policies and procedures
Prepare general and specialized (high hazard) permits to work for routine and non-routine site operations and maintenance activities
Monitor subcontractor safety with the assistance of the Site Manager, Site Lead Maintenance Technician and the Site Lead Operator
Prepare Job Safety Environment Analysis (JSEA) or similar documentation and assist operations and maintenance crews with the preparation of documentation.
Conduct investigations and root cause analysis to improve process safety and to make resolution recommendations. Implement corrective/preventive actions and continuous improvement activities as directed.
Maintain HSSE management system reporting requirements for site documentation.
Ensure operations and maintenance work is performed within the framework of the HSSE programs on site and documentation required for work is completed and maintained for required periods.
Maintain and update site personnel required training and fitness for duty status.
Coordinate training requirements for visitors and new employees to site. Setup, use and maintain training and documentation systems as required by WSP USA Inc. and client.
Participate in client training seminars as needed. Attend meetings, workshops, training, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
Respond to emergency situations during or after normal work hours for the purpose of resolving immediate HSSE concerns.
Identify and report potential and existing site hazards, incidents, potential Fatal Risk Controls, and pSIF’s
Lead site personnel to document site hazards, incidents, injuries and Fatal Risk Control variances
Assist Site Manager with routine industrial and hazardous waste management activities such as waste inventories, vendor scheduling and waste haul oversight, and manifest tracking and filing, as necessary
Participate in and prepare HSSE audits, inspections and routine surveys including drafting audit documentation, tracking corrective actions, and monitoring trends of audit activities
Guide site personnel participation in the WSP USA Inc iSIMS system
Participate in site meetings and handoff meetings
Complete training on assigned tasks.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Certified Safety Professional OR plant operations HSSE experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Working knowledge and experience with applicable Federal and State HSSE regulations
Ability to obtain a 40-hour OSHA HazWOPER certificate or have a current certificate
Safe operation of all site-specific mobile equipment and a company vehicle
Excellent understanding of Health and Safety practices and mechanical aptitude
Ability to respond, as necessary, on a timely basis to health, safety, security and environment incidents and near misses
Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally.
Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, and technology
Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Required use of correct PPE, including safety glasses, hard hat, hearing protection, high visibility clothing, steel-toed work boots and anti-slip footwear devices, occasional use of a respirator is required
Manual dexterity required to use equipment
Lifting, moving, and carrying up to 50 lbs may be required
Prolonged periods of standing, walking, reaching, balancing, kneeling crouching, crawling and ascending stairs throughout facility
Walk the process floor and hike unimproved areas of the site, walking may exceed several miles per day
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with health, environment and safety management systems
Bachelors degree in HSSE, engineering or sciences with practical experience in Federal or State HSSE regulations
