Your Opportunity

Nested within Stantec’s multiple disciplinary Human Environment team, our Indigenous Services team specializes in Indigenous engagement support, facilitation of traditional land and resource use studies, integration of Indigenous knowledge into environmental impact assessments. We provide Indigenous business procurement and Indigenous participation initiatives, cultural resources planning, management, assessment and mitigation services. We practice respectful collection and interpretation of information in collaboration with Indigenous Nations, Indigenous governments and Indigenous organizations.

Stantec’s approach to Indigenous engagement is focused on reconciliation by working collaboratively with our clients to create and foster respectful and meaningful relationships. Through this approach, our clients are positioned to incorporate the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: 94 Calls to Action. We practice respectful collection and interpretation of information in collaboration with Indigenous Nations, Indigenous governments and Indigenous organizations.

Stantec’s Indigenous Services has an opportunity for an Indigenous Services Engagement Lead. We are looking for a candidate to be based out of one of our British Columbia offices: Burnaby, Kelowna, Kamloops, Quesnel, Sidney, or Victoria. We are also open to community-based work options.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Liaising with project managers and other departments as well as internal and external clients to ensure the delivery of objectives

  • Leading Indigenous Services project teams

  • Undertaking and coordinating proposal writing activities

  • Conducting Indigenous knowledge and traditional land and resource use studies, including interviews and field studies

  • Working directly with Indigenous Nations for project engagement

  • Reporting, documentation, and quality review

  • Completing assessments for regulatory applications

  • Completion of projects efficiently within allocated budgets and timelines

  • Providing guidance and mentorship to junior staff

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience in team leadership and project management

  • Experience in presenting to a variety of audiences is considered an asset

  • Experience in environmental impact assessments

  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultural, historical and political context in Canada

  • Must have a valid driver’s license as travel may be required in this position as project needs dictate

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications

Education and Experience

  • 5 years technical experience or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as Indigenous studies, anthropology, sociology, geography, archaeology and/or environmental sciences.

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree is an asset, however, close to qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.

  • Relevant consulting experience is an asset.

  • Industry-specific safety training certificates is an asset

  • Socioeconomics or public health assessment experience is an asset

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • Lower Mainland $89,000/BC Other Areas $84,000 - Lower Mainland $133,600/BC Other Areas $126,000 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
