Associate Provost - Academic and Faculty Affairs

POSITION DETAILS

Reporting to the Provost, the Associate Provost for Academic and Faculty Affairs is responsible for ensuring leadership, excellence, and sufficiency of Queens College’s faculty success and selected academic affairs functions. This individual will become a valued and visible member of an outstanding team of academic affairs professionals committed to offering an affordable, accessible, and high-quality education.

Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee, staff and ensure compliance with college and CUNY policies and processes for faculty personnel actions (tenure, promotion, academic leaves, etc.) in coordination with professional staff in the Office of the Provost and in the academic divisions as well as college and CUNY leadership

  • Oversee the work of the Curriculum Council, facilitate collaboration between stakeholders on large-scale curricular projects, and serve on appropriate councils and committees pertaining to curriculum within the college and at CUNY

  • In tandem with the Academic Senate, coordinate curricular revision and registration of new programs flowing from departments, programs, and college governance through CUNY Central and the State of New York, ensuring that curricular changes are aligned with requirements, changes are communicated, and public-facing information is updated

  • Assist faculty, departments, and programs in complying with CUNY and college policies and procedures, especially as they pertain to curriculum, scheduling, and grading, in close collaboration with Academic Advising, the Registrar, and other stakeholders external to Academic Affairs

  • Lead the periodic recertification of Queens College Centers and CUNY Institutes housed at Queens College

  • Lead, in tandem with professional staff in the Office of the Provost, faculty-facing events, celebrations, and recognitions

  • Develop, lead, and assess effectiveness of workshops, clinics, programs, and resources in support of faculty professional development, career progression, and faculty in leadership roles, at Queens College and in tandem with CUNY Central as well as sister CUNY colleges

  • Provide vision, leadership and oversight of the following offices and programs: Office of Student Advocacy and Appeals, Graduate Studies, the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Leadership, and interdisciplinary programs

  • Provide leadership and management of academic aspects of international partnerships

  • Ensure compliance with CUNY, State, and Federal law, policy, and reporting pertaining to faculty

  • Organize and oversee fulfillment of data requests and inquiries, as well as reporting and tracking, pertaining to faculty affairs, in tandem with Academic Affairs professional staff, the Associate Provost for Student Success, and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness

  • Additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is part of CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan.

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and eight years’ related experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Scholarly record meriting appointment as a tenured associate or full professor in an area of discipline/department that is housed at Queens College

  • Candidate should demonstrate a record of progressively enhanced responsibility, accountability, and success in academics

  • Excellent organizational skills and analytical ability, strategic orientation, a strong focus on outcomes, and experience in communicating results.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with persons of ethnically, culturally, and economically diverse backgrounds

  • Familiarity with regional accreditation processes and accrediting agencies

  • Student-focused orientation appropriate to a leadership role at a large, urban, minority-serving institution of higher education

  • Candidate who leads with diplomacy, tact, confidentiality, and fairness at the forefront

  • Skilled at developing staff, fostering teamwork, and managing change

  • High level of familiarity with best practices in advancing all faculty, and particularly in recruiting and retaining a diverse faculty

  • Experience in a unionized higher education environment desired

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary range $172,500 - $182,500, commensurate with education and experience
