Position Details:

 

Summary of Duties:

 

As a Data Security Analyst at WSU Information Security Services, your core responsibilities will include:

 

• Enhancing WSU's information security by safeguarding online activities of students, faculty, and staff.

 

• Innovating and implementing processes and technologies to boost the operational security's effectiveness, efficiency, and response time.

 

• Consistently delivering operational security services within established timeframes.

 

• Providing expert technical security consulting and support across the University, collaborating with both central IT Services and departmental IT organizations.

 

• Mitigating technical security risks during the development and implementation of new information systems as part of the Information Security Services Team.

 

• Advising IT Services leadership on information security architecture, including emerging technologies, processes, policies, procedures, and risk mitigation strategies.

 

This role requires a detail-oriented and innovative individual dedicated to maintaining a secure and efficient operational security environment.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

• A Bachelor's degree and three (3) years professional experience OR a combination of education and experience totaling seven (7) years from which comparable knowledge and abilities are acquired.

 

• Working knowledge and experience with information security technologies, implementations, principles, and practices.

 

• Experience in information security incident response and analysis.

 

• Ability to analyze business requirements, assess the value of information technologies, and design information systems to meet business needs.

 

• Knowledge and understanding of security technologies including intrusion detection/prevention systems, firewalls, VPNs, vulnerability scanning, and security information and event management (SIEM) systems.

 

• Experience with security log review, correlation, and analysis.

 

• Demonstrated customer service experience.

 

• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

 

• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Experience implementing operational information security procedures and technical training materials.

 

• Demonstrated experience with working within formal project management frameworks.

 

• Experience with log SIEM applications, to include developing searches, reports, and other automated routines.

 

• Experience with security reviews of firewall, file system, and other forms of access control lists.

 

• Experience with digital forensics software and processes.

 

• Demonstrated ability to appropriately prioritize multiple tasks, projects, or assignments.

 

• Knowledge of both Windows and Linux operating systems.
