POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 

The successful applicant will join one other full-time board-certified clinical pathologist and a dedicated team of two residents, one laboratory manager, three medical technologists and multiple, trained, DVM student employees. The well-equipped https://hospital.vetmed.wsu.edu/hospital-wide-services/clinical-pathology/, processes around 15,000 patient samples per year, is situated in Pullman, WA within the https://hospital.vetmed.wsu.edu/, the leading academic veterinary referral center in the state of Washington and the Pacific Northwest.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The successful applicant will be expected to provide diagnostic service for the VTH, clinical and didactic instruction of professional veterinary students, interns, residents, and graduate students, and to conduct collaborative research/scholarship within the candidate's area of interest. The successful applicant must be able to effectively communicate and work with people of diverse backgrounds.

 

The Clinical Pathology Laboratory provides clinical diagnostic services and professional laboratory expertise nationally and internationally to veterinary hospitals, referring veterinarians, and referring laboratories. Our services include state of the art automated hematology, coagulation, and clinical chemistry as well as fluid analysis, cytology, and urinalysis which are performed by certified medical technologists and clinical pathology trained veterinary medicine students. Diagnostic services are provided for multiple species of animals including equine, bovine, canine, feline, exotics, camelids, caprine and others. In addition to services provided on site, services are provided nationally via overnight mail which can be utilized by our clients and customers for comprehensive testing. The clinical pathology laboratory is dedicated to educating current and future veterinarians through pre-clinical teaching, clinical rotations, and residency and graduate student training as well as providing services for faculty and resident research projects.

 

The VTH is a full-service referral and primary care center that aspires to be the country's best academic veterinary hospital for patients, students, clients, colleagues, and community. The joint mission of the VTH and VCS is to improve the health and well-being of all animals through excellence in medical care, training future veterinarians, and finding innovative ways to diagnose and treat disease. Dedicated to this vision and mission are more than 60 full-time faculty members and 170 staff and house officers.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

• The candidate must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD) degree or foreign equivalent degree (i.e., BVSc), and be board-certified or board-eligible in Clinical Pathology by the American College of Veterinary Pathology or the European College of Veterinary Pathology by the time of hire. Successful candidates must demonstrate a commitment and relevant ability to successfully advocate for diversity and values of diversity and inclusion.
