Department Information

Educational Talent Search (ETS) is a federally funded TRIO program that assists middle and high school students from first-generation and low-income families in developing the motivation and skills necessary to complete secondary school, enter postsecondary education and be successful. ETS offers participants advising, academic support, workshops, exposure to career and educational opportunities and college tours. The target area for the program includes two middle schools and two high schools within Pueblo School District 60 and HOPE Learning Academy which serves students 6th – 12th grade.

Description of Job

The Student Success Advisor reports to the Program Director and provides general administrative support to the program as well as direct services to program participants. The Student Success Advisor is responsible for oversight of the front office, to include, but not limited to ordering supplies, processing program applications, managing student files, creating authorized business function forms, and providing front-line customer service for the program. The Student Success Advisor also provides direct advising services to program participants and assists with the planning and facilitation of program events and field trips. The Student Success Advisor also provides administrative support in the completion of the Annual Performance Report, this includes student tracking and recording of data.

This TRIO Talent Search position is funded through August 31st, 2026, by a renewable five- year TRIO grant.

Primary Duties

Student Academic Support

  • Manages a caseload of 180 to 250 students.

  • Provides direct assistance and academic advising to program participants (middle school OR high school level).

  • Determines services needed in order to achieve educational goals and tracks progress.

  • Provides information about college and career exploration; coordinates tutoring; provides college access assistance.

  • Attends and assists with field trips.

  • Maintains student records and information entered into the program’s database. This includes documentation related to acceptance into the Talent Search Program and tracking the students’ progress.

Program Event Support

  • Assists in planning and coordinating year-round program events (reserving transportation, room reservations, ordering food, etc.).

  • Submits and manages required paperwork for official functions, assists with arrangements and budget allocation for official functions.

  • Maintains Sign in sheet creation, tracking and imputing.

Office Support

  • Manages, organizes and coordinates general office functions, including answering the telephone, and providing customer service.

  • Purchases office supplies/equipment by initiating purchase orders, check requests, or P-Card purchases. Ensures all paperwork is properly completed to comply with university and federal fiscal rules, including official function forms, check requests, purchase orders, etc.

Community Outreach

Performs community outreach in an effort to recruit Talent Search participants. This includes developing presentations using various media; speaking to groups of potential participants, parents and staff members of target schools and community organizations and assistance with other activities that promote the program.

Data Management and Recordkeeping

Monitors processing procedures in compliance with TRIO Federal rules and regulations. Compiles data, ensures accuracy and assists the Director in the preparation of the Annual Performance Report. Maintains accurate student records, ensures proper data is obtained, and manages the student tracking database in accordance with Federal regulations associated with this Title IV grant.

Ancillary Duties

  • Participates in professional organizations (i.e. TAP (TRIO Alliance of Pueblo), ASPIRE (Association of Special Programs in Region Eight).

  • Attends professional development training.

Salary Range

$43,888 - $50,000

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

  • Current valid and unrestricted driver’s license

  • Ability to travel to target schools and transport students in a 15-passenger van.

  • Effective written communication skills

  • Proficient in using MS Office software and social media

  • Bilingual in Spanish/English

  • Experience working with first generation and low-income students in an educational environment.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with experience relating to diverse populations and constituents

  • Experience in event planning and coordination.

  • Experience in a position that required administrative skills that include office management and demonstration of proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and database programs.

  • Experience in a position that required familiarity with general office equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social science field, social work or related field

  • Familiarity with CSU Pueblo’s business processes and resource management systems (Kuali, AIS)

  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Familiarity with federal, state or other grant budget accounting procedures and managing budgets

  • Experience in a position requiring familiarity with student support program databases such as Student Access to manage database tracking requirements and processes to generate data-driven reports

  • Two or more years of professional experience related to college admissions, advising, and/or financial aid

  • Experience coordinating and planning educational programs and activities for youth or families

  • Experience supporting first generation and low-income participants in a student-support program
