Provo City is looking for a Spanish-speaking Victim Assistant to provide paraprofessional liaison work assisting victims of violent crime through social services and the legal system.

What is the compensation?

Pay Rate: (G25) $23.66 - $32.62 per hour (depending on qualifications)

  • Assist and support victims of domestic violence sexual assault, other crimes against persons, and violent crimes.

  • Collect information and assist victims in filling out reports, orders of protection, and other documents as needed.

  • Advise victims and next-of-kin of available resources and programs.

  • Coordinate the services of various agencies and programs on the victim’s behalf to enhance the safety of victims and help facilitate offender accountability.

  • Assist victims and children through court procedures, including informing them of court dates, case status, nuances of the justice system, scheduling appointments, assisting in preparation of trial testimony, and providing support.

  • Testify in court as needed and provide recommendations to the court on reparations and restitution.

  • Conduct research and collect statistics on violent crimes in Provo City.

  • Attend police briefings.

  • Notify next-of-kin in cases involving death.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

    What are the minimum qualifications?

Provo City will honor equivalent combinations of related education/experience [substituting each one year of post-secondary education/training for six months of experience].

  • Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or other job-related field.

  • One year of experience in crisis intervention, victim assistance, law enforcement, social services, or job-related field,

  • Requires a valid, lawful Driver License.

  • Oral and written fluency in Spanish.

    What is the duration of this position?

This position is grant funded and contracted. The contract is for one year, but is expected to extend longer.

What is the selection process?

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on September 18, 2024. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
