Provo City is looking for a full-time Line Clearance Arborist to provide skilled power line tree clearance work in support of Provo City’s utility and street tree maintenance programs.

This position includes working around power lines to clear trees and other debris as well as other general maintenance duties. Qualified applicants interested in performing this work for Provo City are encouraged to apply.

What is the compensation package?

Pay Range: (G27) $25.08 - $34.58 per hour (depending on qualifications)

  • Climb trees using safety devices and harnesses.

  • Trim trees and shrubs from high voltage power lines to eliminate safety hazards and to ensure power reliability.

  • Remove tree limbs and other items that obstruct wires.

  • Perform rigging maneuvers with ropes, blocks, slings, and other tools and equipment.

  • Provide maintenance care including planting, watering, spraying, sweeping, fertilizing, pruning, and anchoring trees.

  • Cable, brace, tie, bolt, stake, and guy trees and branches to provide support.

  • Assist in supervising seasonal or part time workers.

  • Safely operate various power tools, equipment, and vehicles including chain and pole saws, safety cones, hydraulic and pole pruners, compressors, pickups, dump trucks, aerial lift trucks, tree spades, skip loaders, chippers, and stumpers.

  • Load job order equipment onto trucks.

  • Empty various containers into trucks and receptacles.

  • Set out flags and cones for work site safety.

  • May perform routine building or grounds maintenance work.

  • Assist other crew and staff members as needed and perform other related duties as required.

What are the minimum qualifications?

Provo City will honor equivalent combinations of of job-related education and experience (substituting each one year of education/training for six months of experience).

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • A valid, lawful Commercial Driver License.

  • Two years of experience as a power line clearance tree trimmer.

  • Flagger Training Certification.

  • Completion of a Tree Trimmer (Line Clearance) program with the Department of Labor’s Apprenticeship USA (or an equivalent training program).

  • A Utah Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License is preferred.

    What is the selection process?

    Applications for this position will be considered in the order they are received. Applications must meet the minimum requirements listed below to be eligible for selection consideration. Prior to appointment, applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
