Brown University Admin and Event Coordinator in Providence, Rhode Island

Job Description:

The Administrative and Event Coordinator supports the curricular, research, and professional service activities of department programs and provides administrative and financial assistance for faculty in a number of specific research groups in the department. Working independently, the incumbent will plan and maintain financial responsibility for the many high-profile events the Department of Computer Science holds each year.

The position will work closely with the Graduate School and Office of International Student Scholar Services to welcome undergraduate visiting student interns and graduate student visiting research fellows.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with 1-2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Financial and/or outreach coordination experience is preferred. Experience of working in an academic higher education institution is desirable.

  • Experience in coordinating large-scale events with attendees ranging from faculty, students, alumni, and respected colleagues from other institutions

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to elicit and communicate information and to prepare /present clear, informative, and concise materials.

  • Proficiency in document preparation, spreadsheet, and database programs (Excel and Google Sheets).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint), Web-based programs and tools, Gmail and related Google applications, FileMaker, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.

  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with tact and diplomacy.

  • Able to work independently and escalate issues as needed.

  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Must be flexible and willing to work in a fast-paced academic environment.

  • Ability to work under pressure in a deadline-oriented environment.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Personal initiative and motivation.

  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
