Position Location: Princeton, NJ & Rocky Hill, NJ

Role Summary

  • The Sr. Research Manager is self-motivated and works with minimal oversight. This individual will manage multiple projects through multiple subordinates, establishing priorities within group. Will manage and be accountable for the performance of group, and track training needs and development opportunities, especially including regulatory requirements. The individual will manage Princeton or off-site pilot plant logistics. Must recognize regulatory requirements including OSHA (for process safety, chemical hygiene, and worker health and safety) and environmental, and their impact on projects.

Role Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Perform process evaluation including mass and energy balances, flow diagrams, safety reviews, etc.; manage group in this work.

  • Marketing and operations liaison to assure proper prioritization and resource deployment

  • Manage feasibility including thermodynamics, bench testing, etc.

  • Noted ability to lead projects, solve problems, and use six sigma DMAIC principles in all work.

  • Leads process development initiatives including pilot design, operation, data interpretation, and design for robustness

  • Manage technical innovation and risk

  • Perform project support including vendor testing, equipment selection, writing of operating manuals and reports, etc.

  • Startup leadership and accountability including process validation, best industry practices, commercialization, defining control strategy, process safety assurance, etc.

  • Manages plant support including testing of process changes, problem solving, etc.

  • Conducts marketing support including product differentiation to meet specific customer needs, some customer technical service, etc.

  • Economic evaluation of projects requiring process capital

  • Proactively identify and implement process technologies that improve margins and/or support the Company’s strategic vision

Education and Experience

B.S. or M.S. from an accredited institution in Chemical Engineering or related discipline. Highly seasoned with 10+ years of relevant experience and experience as a group technical leader.

Skills and Competencies

  • Demonstrated leadership and influencing skills; must develop good relationships and exert influence over other departments, plants; excellent technical communication skills.

  • Ability to lead projects independently with staff and be results driven.

  • Ability to supervise and mentor junior staff and lead and be accountable for group as needed including engage in people development activities.

  • Ability to develop, organize and prioritize portfolio.

  • Demonstrated multi-tasking, strong organizational, work planning, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage and be accountable for a large workload at times and to adapt to reprioritization as necessary in a rapidly changing environment.

  • Ability to work in a cross-functional environment involving marketing, packaging, analytical, safety and clinical regulatory, etc.

  • Must possess good interpersonal skills and good verbal and written skills

  • Sense of urgency and drive for results; working knowledge of regulatory process
