The Material Science, Lab Planning and Execution (MS-LPE) group is part of the Translational Science and Diagnostics (TS/Dx) team. TS/Dx leads internal and external diagnostic research & development activities to support multiple disease areas of interest including hematological malignancies , inflammatory disease programs, neuroscience, cardiovascular, fibrosis, and solid tumor indications. The TS&Dx group integrates scientific and business insights of multiple functions to provide innovative solutions that will make precision medicine a reality for the patients and health care providers we serve.

Position Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to lead and conduct laboratory experiments for the biophysical characterization of protein reagents for use across multiple technology platforms, including but not limited to: Flow cytometry, IHC, and immunoassays. In this role the individual will be responsible for collaborating and communicating across the organization to assure on-time delivery of high-quality characterized materials.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Works independently with limited supervision to design, execute, and analyze laboratory experiments to assess the biophysical/binding properties of antibody and non-antibody protein reagents using BLI, SPR, and other technologies.

  • Works independently with limited supervision to design and execute method development experiments for immunoassays.

  • Works independently with limited supervision to interpret results, plan next steps, compile final data summaries, and present results to stakeholders.

  • May lead projects and provide oversight of experimental design and data review for junior staff members.

  • May lead scientific collaborations and/or contracted research as needed.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand project needs and relay information back to the group.

  • May serve as a technical point of contact within the group.

  • May lead innovation projects related to the biophysical characterization of protein reagents.

  • Troubleshoots assay problems and instrument malfunctions.

  • Maintains required training per BMS standard operating procedures.

  • Maintains and completes notebooks and other documentation as per departmental guidelines.

  • Achieves objectives in a manner consistent with the BMS Behaviors

  • May lead or contribute to writing and presentation of findings in the form of posters, publications, and oral presentations (internal and external)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 7+ years of academic and / or industry experience

Or

  • Master's Degree

  • 5+ years of academic and / or industry experience

Or

  • Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences

  • 2+ of academic and / or industry experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of BLI or SPR

  • Thorough knowledge in the development and validation of regulated pharmacokinetic, immunogenicity, and biomarker immunoassays.

  • Experience with antibody and non-antibody protein generation.

  • Thorough knowledge of the drug discovery and development process.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to independently interpret and deliver results.

  • Ability to effectively work across levels and functions with both internal and external stakeholders."

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Experience overseeing junior colleagues.
