Overview

SRI's Information & Computing Sciences Division is taking on some of the world's most important challenges, creating leading-edge technology solutions that have revolutionary impact. Our researchers are redefining the way human beings interact with machines and with one another through machines, as we define what's next in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computing for the real world.

The Center for Vision Technologies (CVT) develops and applies its algorithms and hardware to be able to see better with computational sensing, understand the scene using 2D/3D reasoning, understand and interact with humans using interactive intelligent systems, support teamwork through collaborative autonomy, mine big data with multi-modal data analytics and continuously learn through machine learning.

CVT's Vision Systems Lab is seeking an Intern with experience in optical sensor design and analytics, particularly in analyzing optical phenomena with chemical-physical properties. The role involves advancing current systems and developing future ones in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate should be capable of working independently and be effective in a small team or individual tasks.

Responsibilities
Developing concepts for sensor systems capable of detecting low-density chemicals in aerosols
  • Conducting experiments to test and validate developmental sensor systems
  • Analyzing and interpreting data, including developing system simulations, and implementing automated analysis algorithms
  • Collaborating with teams of engineers and scientists to progress prototypes to products
  • Generating reports, test plans, presentations, and other deliverable documentation
Qualifications
  • Ph.D./MS degree in physics, chemistry, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in experimental development and testing of analytical instrumentation (e.g., spectrometry, spectroscopy, or optical signal processing).
  • Proficiency in designing optical sensor systems for detecting low SNR conditions.
  • Strong data analysis skills, with experience working with large and noisy datasets.

The salary range is: $30-$45/hr. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles.
