Princeton University seeks an experienced and highly motivated individual to serve as Grants Manager in the Princeton Materials Institute (PMI). PMI is an interdisciplinary research center at Princeton University that seeks to bring together scholars across disciplines to develop materials-based solutions to pressing global challenges and to educate the next generation of leaders in materials science and engineering. Reporting to the Business Manager, the Grants Manager will be responsible for managing pre- and post- award activities related to sponsored project grants, including complex multi-faculty center awards. The Grants Manager will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with other internal departments and externally with industry, government laboratories, and other academic institutions.

Responsibilities

Pre-award grant management:• Collaborates with PI(s) and department administrators to successfully identify funding opportunities related to faculty interests.• Consults and advises project members on content, timing, and documentation necessary for proposals to be submitted to funding sources.• Prepares proposal submission documents in compliance with Princeton University and sponsoring agency policies and procedures.• Develops budget proposal and related documents.• Submits and routes proposals to sponsoring agencies in coordination with Office of Research and Project Administration (ORPA).

Post award management and financial administration: • Oversees and manages award/sub-award/contract process; handles grant extensions, supplements, re-budgeting and transfers to other institutions as needed.• Coordinates with department administrators to allocate and monitor personnel effort; ensuring timely effort certification as required by the University.• Reviews and approves sponsored research expenditures ensuring documentation is accurate and appropriate.• Monitors allowable and allocable costs, spending patterns and balances to prepare financial reports.• Prepares financial reports or projections as needed and assists with the preparation and submission of progress reports/close-out reports as required by Princeton University and sponsoring agency policies.• Assists with the preparation, review, and analysis of financial reports for the Institute’s non-sponsored funds, including endowments, term gifts and university funds.

Compliance: • Communicates sponsored research and university financial policies and regulations to faculty, staff, and students; ensures compliance to applicable laws, policies and procedures; and, serves as a liaison to university research administrators.• Evaluates and recommends operational efficiencies and improvements to business processes.• Ensures accuracy and timeliness of all grant related materials and applications.• Actively participates in meetings, workshops, and training sessions for regulatory compliance pertaining to grants and contracts.• Acts as the point of contact for the institute during the University’s annual audit process and ensures all documentation necessary for review is provided accurate and timely

Supervision:• Supervises the Assistant Grant Manager which includes, but not limited to, review of documents or proposals created by the AGM for accuracy and compliance, regular touch point meetings to evaluate workload and progress, coaching and setting goals for professional development, and completion of the annual performance review• Manages overall workflow of the Grant Office and shifts priorities or delegates tasks as needed

Other:

• Reports on Grant Office activity during monthly institute meetings • Assists the Business Manager with other job-related projects and duties as identified.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

• 3 + years of experience in grant administration or financial administration

• Knowledge of grant proposal submission, award life-cycle, and grant administration required • Knowledge of financial analysis and projection, accounting processes, and budgeting is required.• Knowledge of government sponsors guidelines. • The successful candidate will have exceptional attention to detail, demonstrate initiative, work independently in a fast-paced environment, and have strong organizational and interpersonal skills

PREFERRED Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Experience, and Other Education:

• Grants management experience in academic setting.• Experience with federal sponsors including NSF, DOD, and DOE• Knowledge of Princeton University financial systems or Huron research suite software.• Knowledge of uniform guidance principles• Ability to understand and interpret complex federal grant requirements and compliance issues.

This postition is eligible for a flexible work arrangement with a maximum of 1 remote working day after the probationary period.
