The Electrician for Experimental Power installs and modifies AC power distribution equipment for providing power to various experimental devices and systems within the laboratory.

Responsibilities

Core Duties

• Installation and modification of AC power (typically up to 277/480V) distribution equipment in accordance with all applicable codes, including but not limited to, cabling, conduit, cable tray, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, motor starters, VFD’s.

• Oversee the work of an electrician’s helper in completing the installation and modification of AC power distribution equipment.

• Develop bill of materials for electrical projects, order materials, and perform receipt inspections for verification of materials received.

• Follow safe practices such as: being aware of workplace hazards/job specific hazards, following the JHA (Job Hazard Analysis) and having relevant up to date work permits.

• Keep training current, such as: Lockout/Tagout, EUT (Electric Utilization Training) and NFPA 70 National Electric Code (NEC).

  Qualifications

Education and Experience

• NJ Journeyman electrician based upon certified apprenticeship training and 10+ years experience in power systems.

• Experience with methods of control of hazardous energy (lock out/tag out).

• Experience in industrial installations of low voltage power systems.

• Experience in using electrical test equipment for insulation resistance testing (megger), dielectric withstand testing (hi-potter) and low resistance measurements (DLRO) is a plus.

• NJ Electrical Inspector license is a plus.

• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to read and understand technical drawings including power system one-line diagrams, circuit schematics and control wiring diagrams.

• Ability to perform electrical calculations and select equipment as per NFPA 70 National Electrical Code (NEC).

• Knowledge and experience with current NFPA 70 National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.

• Understanding of OSHA safety requirements and lock-out / tag-out.

• Ability to analyze and troubleshoot AC power systems equipment.

• Ability to mark-up as-built drawings with changes.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to work in awkward positions, in narrow or confined spaces, bend, climb, lift and/or move heavy objects up to 50lbs.

• Must be able to climb ladders or stairs to reach objects; comfortable with heights.

• May require frequent kneeling, bending, walking and/or standing for long periods of time.
