Description : The Associate Director reports directly to the Director of US Commercial Real World Data Strategy and is based in central NJ. He/She has responsibility for designing and executing the Brand Data Strategies for the pre-launch, launch, and inline brands/indications for a multi-billion-dollar product portfolio. This individual closely collaborates with Marketing, Legal, Patient Services, Market Access/Trade, Procurement, IT/EIM, Business Insights & Analytics (BI&A) Matrix teams, and other functions within BMS. The ideal candidate will consider the strategic and operational impacts of their work in planning, identifying, acquiring, and utilizing commercial data sources and technologies to generate business impact through enhanced insights and analytics.

Key Responsibilities and Major Duties

Leadership and Project Management

  • Lead a therapy-focused team of employees, contractors, and multiple on-shore and offshore analytics consultants to support the data needs of Marketing, Sales, Patient Support, Market Access/Trade, and Business Insight & Analytics.

  • Enable Business Insights & Analytics matrix team members to execute impactful analytics by highlighting existing and acquiring new, fit-for purpose data sets.

  • Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously and deliver results in a timely manner. Prioritize efforts across portfolio, focusing on maximizing business value.

  • Mentor and train new or existing team members and BI&A colleagues.

  • Drive the annual functional planning efforts in support of the budget process with Finance and Brand teams.

Data Strategy

  • Establish Data Strategy and implement Data Models for launch products, in alignment with Brand and Commercialization strategies.

  • Monitor rapidly evolving data marketplace, identifying, evaluating and acquiring new data sources, and forging new partnerships in support of enhancing BMS's competitive capabilities.

  • Oversee management of data contracts (MSA's, SOW's) with new and existing data vendors. Creates data SOW's in alignment with approved budget, amend, monitor and terminate contracts as required. Negotiate data contracts and deliverables with third party data providers.

Business Value

  • Partner with Brand leaders to synthesize key business questions, develop hypothetical solutions, analyze their feasibility, and execute acquisition of data assets in support of commercial strategy. Ensure alignment of data needs, quality, timelines, deliverables and costs.

  • Develop deep understanding of covered disease states, treatment landscapes, and market access. Translate knowledge into illustrative patient journeys and analytics to uncover gaps, build competitive advantages and highlight opportunities for efficiencies.

  • Collaborate with Matrix partners for patient opportunity identification data analysis and lead Physician level Alert generation to support field sales team call planning.

  • Lead performance tracking work streams to support non-commercial data uses including patient access and support services. Provide guidance on appropriate use of data and metrics.

Data Quality, Privacy and Protection

  • Work closely with Legal, Privacy, Strategic Corporate Transactions, and Data Protection Office to ensure appropriate protections are in place for privacy, regulatory and contractual compliance.

  • Continuously gather data and technology insights to identify gaps in quality, capabilities, and coverage. Formulate and execute solutions to address identified gaps.

  • Serve as point of escalation for team to resolve data quality and invoice issues.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree/MBA/MS plus 5+ years experience preferred

  • Proven leadership in the pharmaceutical and/or healthcare industry. Understanding of analytical and insight generation approaches in the biopharma industry including descriptive and predictive analytics, business intelligence and reporting, primary market research and competitive intelligence.

  • Ability to draw inferences from disparate pieces of data, identify key findings, link to implications and provide recommendations in a digestible and business-friendly format

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work with diverse teams across organizational lines and structures and negotiate with stakeholders.

  • Broad knowledge of secondary pharmaceutical data sources such as Retail & Non-Retail data, Medical & Pharmacy Claims, EMR, Lab Test/Diagnostics, Chart Audits, Patient Hub & Specialty Pharmacy Data, 852/867 EDI and Health System/Payer - Plan hierarchies. Operational experience with Specialty Pharmacy data and data aggregation.

  • Deep understanding of data use cases in pharma/biopharma/healthcare including patient journey, performance management, targeting, market sizing & segmentation, customer affiliation, field alignment. and incentive compensation. Familiarity with emerging Analytics / Data Science capabilities and their application to healthcare / life sciences.

  • Knowledge of therapeutic areas, preferably Oncology, Hematology, Immunology, Neuroscience, or Cardiovascular.

  • Experience with creation and presentation of business cases as well as business rule documentation.

  • Experience managing contracts and vendors as well as familiarity with procurement processes.

  • Proficiency in data analytics tools such as Excel, SQL, SAS, Alteryx, MicroStrategy & Tableau.

  • Understanding of healthcare related regulations and their impacts on healthcare data usage.
