About you and this role:

Dowhas an exciting opportunity to join the LP-7 Operations team inPrentissas anAssociate Operator!

LP-7 is a Gas Phase Polyethylene facility that produces more than 65 types of high-density polyethylene and linear low-density polyethylene which are used to manufacture everyday products including plastic containers, bottle caps, cable insulation and toys. LP-7 will be retrofitted in the years ahead to support theFort Saskatchewan Path2Zero project (https://ca.dow.com/en-ca/about/fort-saskatchewan-path2zero.html) . The retrofit is a significant investment that will diversify the product mix at the Prentiss site and debottleneck the existing plant to use ethylene from the new cracker at the Fort Saskatchewan site, increasing the production volume. It will also enhance the ability to recover and reuse vented hydrocarbons at the Prentiss site to reduce overall CO2 emissions.

The purpose of thisAssociate Operatorjob is to operate assigned equipment or areas of the plant and perform operations related activities per the work process, utilize chemical manufacturing knowledge and experience to operate and troubleshoot the plant in a safe and efficient manner, work in a team environment where individuals often set priorities, and complete work activities with minimal supervision. This is a 24-hour operation and will require the ability to work 12-hour shifts during the day and at night on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Follows Operating Discipline policies, principles, procedures, standards and practices to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of assigned plant areas. Ensures adequate operating discipline is available for all planned and unplanned activities.

  • Operates and field checks process equipment. Monitors process conditions, key performance metrics, equipment and control systems and makes appropriate decisions to maintain and/or achieve desired rates and conditions aligned with Plant/Site/Business goals.

  • Performs scheduled operational and related tasks and tasks that arise as a result of resolving unplanned events.

  • Works with shift team members and other shift teams to leverage skills and knowledge to balance workload ensuring assigned tasks are completed by due dates.

  • Conducts effective shift relief, as defined in facility specific operating discipline and tools, to ensure effective communication and handoff to arriving shift team.

  • Maintains qualification in assigned areas, per facility policy, and completes training goals in a timely manner. This includes using discretionary time to address skills and knowledge gaps. Note: Operator Progression is managed at the site level.

  • Mentors and trains new and existing operations personnel on process operation, troubleshooting and the use of operating discipline in alignment to plant's training process.

  • Performs Immediate Response activities, as assigned.

  • Initiates and documents preliminary investigations according to plant specific process/criteria and participates in formal and informal Root Cause Investigations for events involved in or by request.

  • Tracks and utilizes the plant's key performance metrics on shift that are applicable to the Operating the Plant role to optimize operations and identify improvement opportunities. Uses process knowledge and skills to make improvements in plant performance and operating discipline. Proactively identifies improvements and opportunities utilizing the facility improvement processes, appropriate management of change processes and communication tools.

  • Performs Autonomous Maintenance, including minor repairs and preventative maintenance, utilizing appropriate policies, procedures, processes and disciplines. Note: Subject to local agreements.

  • Expected to participate in Emergency Response Team program.

Physical Requirements:

Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Lift, push, and pull up to 55 lbs.

  • Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.

  • Stand/Walk for extended periods of time.

  • Work at heights, climb stairs and ladders.

  • Work in tight and closed in spaces.

  • Wear all required personal protective equipment, including but not limited to respirator.

Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.

  • A minimum of an active ABSA 4th class Power Engineering Certificate.

  • 2 or more years of related (Operations, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Electrical) work experience.

  • Must be 18 years old or older.

  • Must have a current and valid Canadian Driver's license.

  • Able to work a 12-hour rotating shift.

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is preferred.

  • A minimum requirement for this Canada based position is the ability to work legally in Canada. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position
