As a leader in the Propulsion Systems Team, you will have the opportunity to lead design and test efforts of a wide array of innovative propulsion system solutions that directly impact the success of our customers. In this role you would lead, empower, and help technically guide a team of engineers and engineering designers to define and execute creative solutions to engaging engineering challenges in a wide array of propulsion related products and systems. These include, but are not limited to, various engine installations, core diesel engine design, gearbox systems, fuel systems, oil systems, and propeller control systems. Functioning in a technical and leadership role, you will have the opportunity to lead the planning, execution, and oversight of innovative projects in addition to a team of direct reports, to meet a wide array of customer goals and requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position typically reports to a technical manager and is responsible for the planning, managing and technical performance of one or more engineering unit(s)

  • Support the design, analysis, testing, integration, manufacturing, and fielding of various types of aircraft propulsion systems, including piston engines, turbine engines, propellers, fuel systems, oil systems, and related components

  • Manages all phases of assigned engineering project(s) from inception through completion

  • Participates with technical staff, program managers and/or Division/Group executive management to develop and implement current, annual and long-term technical, schedule, quality, business and financial objectives for the unit(s)

  • May also contribute to the development of annual and long- term objectives for the Division/Group. Objectives are typically accomplished through subordinate engineering managers and/or team leadersReview and approve engineering documentation for delivery to peers, technical staff, executive management, and customers

  • May be responsible for decisions that impact outcomes where erroneous decisions could cause serious schedule delays and expenditure of additional time, resources and funds

  • Manage all activities for engineering project(s) including planning and managing technical performance to ensure quality, business, and financial objectives are attained

  • Troubleshoot various propulsion-related systems including diesel piston and turbine engines, engine control systems, fuel systems, oil systems, propellers, and related components

  • Participate in and coordinate the establishment of design concepts, criteria, and engineering efforts for product research, development, testing, and integration

  • Interact with internal and external representatives at various levels concerning resolution of technical and scheduling issues

  • May participate in the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract(s)

  • Ensure technical leadership and excellence is maintained by participating in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of the required management, professional, and technical talent

  • Identify engineering issues and provide leadership in developing solutions such as re-allocation of resources or modifying contract specifications

  • May participate in the development of new business opportunities and expansion of existing business opportunities

  • Manage the development of and ensure the security of the unit’s proprietary technology, and maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information

  • Responsible for ensuring all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations are observed wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Responsible for ensuring work is accomplished in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelors, Masters or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field as well as eleven or more years of progressively complex engineering experience with at least five of those years having management responsibilities or leadership roles. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education

  • Minimum of eight years of experience in a propulsion-related field

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance is desired

  • Six or more years of experience related specifically to diesel engines

  • Have a thorough and complete understanding of wide range of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties

  • Have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to recognize roadblocks or issues and suggest an appropriate course of action for prevention or resolution

  • Able to adapt and react quickly to changes and challenges presented

  • Experience working with CREO, Windchill, NX, and Teamcenter
