We have an exciting opportunity for an Experienced FRACAS Failure Analysis Engineer in our USAF FRACAS Engineering Group in San Diego CA (Poway, CA). Under general supervision with limited review, this position within the Engineering Field Support department performs FRACAS (Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System) engineering, which includes detailed root cause investigations and development of effective corrective actions for the Aircraft System to improve reliability, reduce costs, and increase Mission Capability.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform failure analysis of suspect UAS hardware to determine root cause of failure.

  • Present investigation findings and provide recommendations to the Failure Review Board (FRB).

  • Coordinate interdepartmental efforts to analyze failures, determine root cause, and develop appropriate and effective corrective actions. Cross-functional interaction with Subject Matter Experts (SME), Manufacturing, Program Office, Material Control, and as well as external suppliers.

  • Create, review, and document fault isolation and troubleshooting procedures for UAV systems.

  • Design test procedures and equipment to perform functional testing and troubleshooting of hardware and software.

  • Maintain FRACAS database, monitor status, track open FRACAS investigations, and generate technical reports for management and customers.

  • Obtain and analyze aircraft data logs and provide documentation as required.

  • Devise new approaches to resolve unusual or complex engineering problems.

  • Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers as required.

  • Perform Additional duties as assigned.

  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the company.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, four or more years of experience with a masters degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.

  • Must have a basic understanding of Engineering concepts, principles, and theory.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to apply engineering knowledge, adapt standard techniques, and utilize the required diagnostics, tools, and equipment, while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance

  • Must be able to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.

  • Strong technical writing, communication, computer, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other professionals, to produce appropriate documentation, and to present results.

  • Must be able to work both independently and with a team of Engineers.

  • Able to work extended work hours if required.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Direct experience supporting a FRAACAS program is highly desired.

  • Familiarity with FRACAS software or databases and a working knowledge of Reliability Analysis and Failure Mode / Fault Tree Analysis is desired.

  • Experience troubleshooting complex aircraft systems including avionics, flight control, data link, engine, servos, and mechanical systems is desired.

  • Understanding of aircraft structures, flight dynamics, and environmental issues is desired.

  • Experience using data logging software as a troubleshooting tool.

  • Experience in FMECA, MTBF, and reliability calculations.
