Job Summary

  • Under Limited Supervision, the Sr. Facilities Mechanic (Mechanical) performs a variety of maintenance and preventive maintenance duties in the Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, HVAC/R and Boiler man fields necessary to the maintenance and repair of the Hospital's building, building systems and grounds. Performs all related duties as directed. All Codes (NY State Building and Construction, Life Safety and DNV will be adhered to. Based on the operational needs of the department, may be called on to cover the Boiler Plant.

    Responsibilities

  • Performs, on a daily basis, a variety of maintenance, installation, and repair duties in the Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, HVAC/R, and Mechanical fields following all applicable codes. Assists all other crafts persons and trained mechanics, as directed. Suggests ways to improve the quality of work and assists in the implementation.

  • Performs Preventive Maintenance on equipment as directed by schedule list of procedures and time schedule. Maintains the inventory of necessary filters, belts, and components for proper maintenance of the mechanical systems. Records will be kept up to date and recorded on the proper forms as work is completed.

  • Checks all equipment relating to the safe operation and environmental comfort of the hospital’s buildings and grounds throughout the hospital complex. Reports all malfunctioning equipment and building deficiencies to the Director of Facilities/Supervisor immediately.

  • Fills out work orders completely and accurately with pertinent information & job deposition. Completed work orders will be turned in daily. Urgent work order completion status reported to the Supervisor as required.

  • Maintains work areas, tools and equipment in a safe, clean and orderly condition on a daily basis. Uses the proper PPE, Personal Protective Equipment, when needed and as directed.

  • Participates, as directed, in the removal of snow or ice and applies sand, salt or other substances as needed to keep all areas free from ice or snow. Uses hand or mechanical apparatus as needed to complete the job.

  • Proper clean attire with no holes in clothing.

  • Responds as needed to hospital fires, disasters and storm emergencies as outlined in the Fire Safety and Disaster Plans for the Hospital.

  • Position is physically demanding. May require work outside normal working hours to include emergency calls or shift coverage. Conditions may at times be hot, cold, and dirty or wet. There is some exposure to major hazards and considerable exposure to minor hazards consistent with this line of work. Safety mechanisms are available and their use is required. Must have good vision, hearing, be fully mobile on steps, ladders etc. Must have sufficient mobility and dexterity of either hands (or mechanical substitutes) to safely operate hand and power tools. Must be able to bend, stoop and lift approximately 50-pound objects.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned, including but not limited to the Boiler Plant

    Qualifications/Requirements

  • EXPERIENCE

  • Must have a good knowledge of all of the craft trades, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC/R Carpentry, Steam, etc.

  • Must be proficient in at lease one of these trades.

  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to understand and maintain mechanical systems.

  • EDUCATION

  • High School diploma or equivalent or related trade school certification preferred.

  • LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • N.Y.S. Drivers License.

  • If applicable, the individual performing this job may reasonably anticipate coming into contact with human blood and other potentially infectious materials. Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.

  • Must exhibit superior knowledge of all facility and mechanical systems throughout the complex.

  • Must have the ability to function independently on emergency repairs or special projects.

  • Confined space certification is desirable.
