Job Summary

  • Under limited supervision, the Electrician installs inspects and repairs all electrical equipment, wiring and fixtures as needed in all hospital owned property following all Federal, State, Local, National Electric, NFPA and Life Safety codes relating to the electrical field

    Responsibilities

  • Installs and repairs Electrical systems, equipment, wiring and fixtures on all hospital owned property following blueprints, manufactures instruction or verbal instructions. Installs electrical components for construction projects. Suggests ways to improve the quality of work and assists in the implementation.

  • Operates and maintains Emergency Generator and its related systems and equipment. Performs electrical safety testing and inspections on hospital electrical distribution systems as per DNV.

  • Schedules and performs Preventive Maintenance on equipment and systems as directed by a scheduled list of procedures and time schedules. Records will be kept up to date and recorded on the proper forms as work is completed.

  • Checks for proper wiring and deterioration of wiring and equipment. Makes repairs or replaces as needed. Checks panels and circuits for proper labeling and labels as needed. Reports all malfunctioning equipment or unsafe conditions to the Supervisor within 24 hours.

  • Estimates cost and materials for assigned jobs. Uses materials to best advantage to avoid waste. Maintains an inventory of necessary electrical components and parts.

  • Fills out work orders completely and accurately with pertinent information and job deposition. Completed work orders will be turned in daily. Urgent work order completion status will be reported to the Supervisor one hour prior to end of shift.

  • Maintains work areas, tools and equipment in a safe, clean and orderly condition on a daily basis. Uses the proper PPE, Personal Protective Equipment, when needed and as directed.

  • Participates, as directed, in the removal of snow or ice and applies sand, salt or other substances as needed to keep all areas free from ice or snow. Uses hand or mechanical apparatus as needed to complete the job.

  • Position is physically demanding. May require work outside normal working hours to include emergency calls or shift coverage. Conditions may at times be hot, cold, and dirty or wet. There is some exposure to major hazards and considerable exposure to minor hazards consistent with this line of work. Safety mechanisms are available and their use is required. Must have good vision, hearing, be fully mobile on steps, ladders etc. Must have sufficient mobility and dexterity of either hands (or mechanical substitutes) to safely operate hand and power tools. Must be able to bend, stoop and lift approximately 50-pound objects.

  • Proper clean attire with no holes in clothing.

  • Responds as needed to hospital fires, disasters and storm emergencies as outlined in the Fire Safety and Disaster Plans for the Hospital.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications/Requirements

  • EXPERIENCE

  • Licensed Electrician preferred with at least two (2) years experience.

  • Must have good working knowledge of the electrical code.

  • Must be familiar with use of all electrical tools.

  • EDUCATION

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.

  • Electrical Trade School.

  • LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • N.Y.S. Drivers License

  • If applicable, the individual performing this job may reasonably anticipate coming into contact with human blood and other potentially infectious materials. Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.

  • Ability to read blueprints and construction background.

  • Must possess excellent customer service skills and the ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels throughout the organization.
