Job Summary

Battelle's Health Research and Analytics (HRA) business line is currently seeking a Public Health Educator / Coach II to support our government customer in Portsmouth, VA. This Public Health (PH) program enables our government customer to maximize readiness through force health protection (FHP) strategies and solutions for current and potential Public Health (PH) threats. The core scientific and technical capabilities and product lines in this program are to conduct Health Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Analysis; Disease and Injury Prevention; and PH Consultation and Support for the benefit of active-duty service members, retirees, and their families. Battelle shall enable these capabilities and product lines by providing Scientific and Technical Information (STI) deliverables, by performing Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E), and other Research and Development (R&D) related analytical services. This position will be located in Newport News, VA .

Supports the implementation of the government customer’s health promotion and wellness initiatives. Assesses health education needs, develops health education programs, and performs targeted healthcare education interventions. Executes, monitors, and evaluates projects, programs, trainings, and services that increase engagement and participation and reduce population health risks.

Responsibilities

  • Supports program development on Health Promotion and Wellness topics.

  • Develops and facilitates virtual collaborations, webinars, education sessions, etc.

  • Leads and conducts Warfighter Wellness/Health Promotion and Wellness individual and group fitness interventions.

  • Implements health education programs by encouraging wellness coaching sessions, classes, and assessments to help expand physical fitness service members.

  • Conducts assessments to determine health education needs.

  • Collaborates with health specialists and stakeholders to set goals and achieve sustainable results.

  • Contributes to program development and creates opportunities to engage in Health Promotion and Wellness topics.

  • Participates in fact sheet, presentation, and publication product development by writing clear content to increase accessibility to nutrition and physical activity interventions.

  • Produces training programs for NMCFHPC health professionals’ community.

  • Collects, analyzes, interprets, and evaluates data related to health promotion programs and activities to assess trends and developments.

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of programs and educational materials as they are used.

  • Collects and analyzes data to learn about their audience and improve programs and services.

  • Works with program administrators and content experts to improve Health Promotion and Wellness policies that promote health.

  • Provides technical support in assessing health promotion outcomes and arranging and making site visits to monitor and evaluate HPW programs.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology, nutrition, health education, health promotion, public health, community health, psychology, and community health nursing or a health‐related profession or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.

  • Knowledge and experience developing and evaluating Health Promotion & Wellness

  • (HPW) programs based on social and behavioral science theories, such as the health belief model and trans-theoretical model, to provide technical support in assessing health promotion outcomes, and arranging and making site visits to monitor and evaluate HPW programs.

  • Experience collecting, analyzing, interpreting and evaluating data to assess trends and developments.

  • Effective communication, public speaking, interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Strong MS office skills including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Experience hosting and facilitating meetings, trainings, etc. via conferencing/collaboration platforms such as MS Teams and WebEx.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience as a health educator in a community‐based Health Promotion environment and/or Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification.

  • Certification/Licensure by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), Health Coach and/or Group Fitness Instructor Certification from a nationally accredited organization such as ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM.

  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification.

  • Experience with Healthy Eating, Active Living, Tobacco Free Living, Reproductive and Sexual Health, Psychological and Emotional Well‐being, Injury and Violence Free living, Preventing Drug Abuse & Excessive Alcohol Use, Chronic Disease Prevention and Medical Home programs and services.

  • Experience developing and analyzing needs assessments for program planning, assessing health status, identifying health risks, identifying resources, cost containment, and establishing priorities for disease prevention.

  • Expertise drafting policy, regulations, instructions, standards, and guidelines related to wellness program issues.

  • Professional knowledge in drafting of policy, regulations, instructions, standards, and guidelines related to HPW program issues.

  • Experience participating in multidisciplinary teams that assess risk, conduct needs assessments, analyze data, develop content for educational programs, draft policy guidance, and evaluate outcome measures.

  • Experience working in a DOD environment.
