Job Summary and Qualifications
Position Summary:
Responsible for the safe and timely transport of patients, equipment, and all other related functions to meet facility
needs. Responsibilities include: excellent customer service, effective communication skills, follows applicable
policies/procedures, attitude of ownership, ability to effectively coordinate with other hospital staff, physicians and
departments
Major Responsibilities
Demonstrated skills in organization, verbal and written communications, customer service, math, analysis, reading, following instruction, basic computer usage.
Specific Elements and Essential Functions*
Cleans, maintains and operates transport equipment and operates elevators to move or escort patients/visitors to and from various hospital areas, as directed, following established operating policies and procedures.
Signs into iMobile immediately upon arriving on shift; utilizes and responds to staff in timely manner.
Receives formal instruction/direction upon pick-up and provides formal hand-off report at the destination, when not required to stay with the patient.
Communicates effectively and collaboratively with patients and staff.
Alerts nursing staff of patient arrival to room for all transfers or new admissions.
Always utilizes two patient identifiers prior to transport.
Follows guidelines concern communicable disease and use of Universal Precautions.
Reports any changes in patient status/condition during transport.
Removes and reports defective equipment to supervisor.
Repositions room to safe and tidy condition by removing clutter from patient care areas.
Assists clinical staff with lifting and moving patients for transfer and transport.
Ensures oxygen tanks required for transport contain sufficient oxygen and are safely secured for transport.
Takes initiative to properly remove and secure portable oxygen cylinders.
Ensures that empty patient beds are moved to required locations per request.
Cleans transportation equipment according to Infection Control protocols.
Confirms patient readiness for transport, including obtaining all appropriate signatures, and the need for appropriate equipment and ensure that equipment is ready and available.
Recognizes cardio-pulmonary distress symptoms, sends for code team and provides CPR if necessary.
Uses patient transport tracking system to receive patient information; accept, track and close assignments.
Assists in orientation process of new transport staff.
Transfers deceased patients to the hospital morgue in accordance with operating policy and procedures.
Performs other related functions as assigned to meet facility needs.

Education & Requirements
Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
High School Graduate / GED
