Job Summary and Qualifications

Position Summary

An Electrical Lead Technician is a skilled worker who is experienced at working with electrical systems in acute care

facilities, or commercial and industrial settings. As an Electrical Lead Technician, responsibilities and duties include

installing new electrical systems, as well as maintaining, operating, and repairing existing systems. An Electrical

Lead Technician is highly skilled regarding electrical equipment, lock-out/tag-out processes and common electrical

systems in the hospital environment including but not limited to emergency generators and emergency power supply

systems. The Electrical Lead Technician should be knowledgeable in maintaining core systems to regulatory compliance

standards. The Electrical Lead Technician will also serve as the lead position in mentoring and guiding the Electrical

Technicians and General Maintenance Technicians. The Electrical Lead Technician shall be willing to assist facility

management operations in other non-electrical maintenance activities as assigned.

Major Responsibilities:

Technical / Operations

  • Physically capable and available to work overtime including weekends, public holidays, and evenings or nights.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities, time management skills, with an attention to detail, and good hand-eye coordination

  • Professional presentation and attitude with the ability to accentuate customer service through strong organizational skills and follow up.

  • Ability to maintain focus while working individually as well as leading work and minimal supervising of others.

  • Ability to reference facility blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.

  • Implement the tasks set forth in Preventative Maintenance procedures as assigned in the CMMS system, either through task completion or assignment to others

  • Promptly able to respond, assess, and troubleshoot corrective work requests that are logged in the CMMS system

  • Maintaining inventory records for equipment and supplies as required.

  • Inspects and tests electrical lighting, power circuits, and other related equipment.

  • Removes and replaces defective wiring and conduits. Tests circuits to comply with safety regulations.

  • Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment using instruments such as ammeter, voltmeter, ohmmeter, growler, etc.

  • Replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other simple elements of electrical systems, fixtures, and appliances.

  • Installs new pipe, wiring, and electrical equipment.

  • Removes and installs motors, transformers, lighting fixtures or other equipment and completes circuits according to diagram specifications.

  • Assembles, installs, and connects components to switchboards and distribution panels and connects them to units controlled.

  • Fastens fixtures, switches, and outlet boxes in position. Runs wire through conduit and makes connections to complete circuits.

  • Handles general maintenance calls throughout the facility as requested.

  • Performs required preventive maintenance and emergency repairs in a complete and timely manner.

  • Estimates the quantities of materials needed to complete work assignments and requisitions them properly.

  • Conforms to regulatory testing and inspections requirements on emergency power systems including emergency generators and automatic transfer switches.

Quality

  • Ability to evaluate systems or components to determine maintenance or repairs that need to be performed.

  • Ability to collaborate with team members to discuss upcoming work assignments, delegate’s assignments based on team member’s skills and experience.

  • Ability to assist team members with technical issues or advanced problems with given assignments

  • Conduct periodic quality checks on building electrical systems and components to ensure functional operability.

  • Maintain appearances and functionality of areas assigned.

  • Implement the tasks set forth in Preventative Maintenance procedures as assigned in the CMMS system, either through task completion or assignment to others

  • Promptly able to respond, assess, and troubleshoot corrective work request that are logged in the CMMS system

  • Maintaining inventory records for equipment and supplies as required.

  • Ability to plan and schedule repairs within the day to day operations of the hospital environment.

Service

  • Maintain open lines of communication with all areas and departments assigned to ensure customers are aware of maintenance requests that have been entered as well as maintenance activities currently in progress.

  • Input relevant work into CMMS system for future tracking and trending by management team

  • Taking inventory of maintenance parts and supplies and notifying relevant persons of low or depleted items.

  • Maintains >90% productivity daily. Time is documented in the CMMS system

People

  • Communicate in a clear, professional manner with colleagues, visitors, and patients

  • Willingness to train and mentor facility management technicians in basic electrical skills

  • Ability to follow instructions and supervision from manager, or supervisor.

  • Ability to oversee and lead other assigned Electrical and General Maintenance Technicians by example.

  • Ability to address minor discipline problems with team members, but refers more serious cases to Manager of Facility Maintenance or Director of Facility Management

  • Ability to communicate successfully with all levels of the organization.

Growth

  • Works with Manager or Supervisor and peers to develop and determine work habits and practices for optimal upkeep of the building and it’s components

  • Continual development through training and learning on the job, to provide upward mobility in the future.

Finance

  • Ability to provide guidance, direction, and instructions to General Maintenance Technicians so that their labor hours are used efficiently for the facility.

  • Ability to manage both labor and materials wisely as work is performed throughout the facility

Other

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • 5 years relevant experience Required

  • Electrical Journeyman or Masters License Required

  • Healthcare related work experience Preferred
