The Principal Engineer, Analysis (Computation Fluid Dynamics and Stress) is responsible for undertaking stress analysis and computational fluid dynamic tasks in support of the Global Aerospace design organizations. This includes performing or review and approval (where applicable) of engineering calculations to accurately predict product performance and maintaining a design on schedule and within cost goals. Responsible for analysis from concept through qualification to in-life support.

This position is part of the Pall Aerospace Global Engineering Services team within the Pall Aerospace Technology Organization of over 100 Scientists, Engineers, and Technicians. The Global Engineering Services Team supports the product delivery teams though the provision of technical expertise, compliance, systems, standard process, and design services, to ensure right first-time design and continuous improvement of skills and performance. It will be based in Portsmouth, United Kingdom and is an on-site role.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Prepare and deliver vibration, flow, pressure drop, structural and material analysis of parts and assemblies in formal reports.

  • Present and defend analysis structure and results to customers in formal design reviews.

  • Act as Subject Matter Expert within the systems disciplines of stress analysis, computational fluid dynamics, mechanical structures, finite element analysis, and design modification/improvement within the scope of improving stress analysis results/responses and optimizing fluid flow.

  • Delivery of right-first-time structural and fluid flow optimization during bids and design phases.

  • Liaise with customers in conjunction with the Design Authority, regarding analysis.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering Bachelor’s Degree.

  • A proven background in performing FEA and CFD (computational fluid dynamics) analysis in a regulated industry such as Aerospace.

  • Use of analysis software packages (ANSYS preferred).

  • Proven experience of computer aided design (CATIA V5 preferred).

  • Experience in stress and flow analysis and modeling of aluminum and composite materials with ability to run hand calculations to complement FEA tools.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Product development, gained in the Aerospace industry

  • Material science and metallurgy, with respect to stress analysis profiles

  • Governing specifications for aerospace stress analysis, with respect to analysis bounds and deliverables
