Join the world class safety culture at Amazon Web Services (AWS) and be part of supporting the largest cloud computing infrastructure team as a Regional Safety Senior Manager. As a Regional Safety Senior Manager, you will own operational Health and Safety for the AMER region, and lead a team of Regional Safety Managers and Regional Safety Engineers. You will be responsible for improving the health and safety of our data centers, advancing safety culture, and protecting our employees. Each day you will work with our data center operations teams and business partners, the people who make the cloud run.

You will work closely with experts in security, construction, engineering, logistics, compliance, corporate counsel, and human resources to further the global health safety program. You will partner with employees as well as contractors to achieve health and safety goals and improve our already strong safety culture. You will work in a fast-paced environment where our operations are rapidly changing, advocating safe changes in the face of new infrastructure, new tools, and new products and processes.

Key job responsibilities

This role is for an experienced Health and Safety Senior Manager with a strong focus on people leadership. The primary responsibilities of the role are to lead a team of Safety Managers and Engineers and support the safety operations for Data Centers in the AMER Region. You will have managed a team of at least four managers with direct reports, over a minimum period of five years.

Key responsibilities in this role are to lead, manage and develop a high performing team of safety leaders. You must be an effective communicator, sending clear, concise and consistent messages verbally, in written form, and in public speaking forums. You will have strong negotiating and influencing skills and be able to advise leadership on health and safety obligations and risk, as well as operations personnel on safety policies and procedures.

This role will report to the Global Data Center Health and Safety Snr Manager. This position is based in the United States. Domestic and international travel is required up to 35%.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of Regional Safety Managers and Engineers, providing leadership and technical expertise.

• Develop and maintain team structure, headcount and budgets.

• Create a positive partnership with regional Operations Leadership and serve as point of contact and escalation for health and safety related matters in the AMER region.

• Develop and implement regional strategy including holding accountability with business stakeholders.

• Participate in the development, review and approval of global health and safety programs. Oversee implementation of global programs at the regional level.

• Ensure compliance with company, global, regional and local Health and Safety policies, procedures and best practice.

• Support your team to collaborate with external vendors (General Contractors, Sub-Contractors, Emergency Services) as they relate to operations and construction.

• Perform safety data analysis and provide accurate reporting and metrics to the business to measure safety culture and performance.

• Consult and partner with compliance teams on health and safety regulatory interpretations and investigations.

• Adapt to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, strategy and deadlines.

• Identify, drive, and support the implementation of initiatives to reduce Health and Safety risks and improve team efficiency.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety or related field, or relevant work experience

• 10+ years work experience in Health and Safety or related field

• 5+ years managing managers

Preferred Qualifications

• Managed a team of safety professionals across diverse regulatory jurisdictions.

• Knowledge of Federal OSHA and safety fundamentals

• CSP and/or CIH

• Degree in Health and Safety or related field

• Experience in a fast paced, changing/growing organization

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with senior leaders

• Ability to develop and implement department goals and strategies

• Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability
