POSITION SUMMARY: The Structural Concrete Estimator will work within the Estimating department and will report directly to the Structural Concrete Estimating Manager. They will work closely with the Estimating department. The Structural Concrete Estimator will analyze project design and construction documents for all structural related scopes to determine the needs of various projects and to prepare project cost estimates. This position will be fully in-office.

SALARY RANGE:90,000 – 130,000 DOE

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide a concrete estimate for an entire project and provide updated estimates as the job progresses

  • Estimating will include providing all concrete takeoffs including but not limited to the following: cubic yardage, forming quantities, finishing quantities, all embedded items (steel plates, unistrut, anchor bolts, waterstop, formsavers, etc), preparing general conditions and providing clarifications and exclusions

  • Understands labor rates and compares similar projects from previous experience

  • Works with concrete vendors to provide pricing for formwork systems, readymix, pumping, and all concrete materials

  • Setup and maintain job cost reports including budgets, commitments, forecast, yet to buys, contingency, and spends.

  • Track costs by bid package, field order, and specific category of change (defined by client).

  • Setup and maintain project indicators (including visual graphics).

  • Develop and prepare a Preconstruction Status Report including narrative, executive cost reports, project cost indicators, cash flow projections, schedule, and logistic plans.

  • Interpret construction drawings, technical manuals and quantifying materials required for construction.

  • On screen take-off of material quantities.

  • Write and publish meeting minutes.

  • Summarize quantities of materials in an orderly fashion.

    QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    EDUCATION

  • High School diploma or GED required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or equivalent degree and/or equivalent field work experience required.

  • Education background in materials and methods of construction.

    EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ structural concrete construction estimating experience preferred.

  • Specific experience in commercial, healthcare, industrial, water treatment, and/or hi-tech types of projects preferred.

  • LEED Accredited Professional, or the ability to become accredited within eighteen (18) months preferred.

    POSITION RELATED SKILLS

  • Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point and Teams), and have a general understanding of working within a computer network.

  • Experience with project management software such as Prolog, Procore, E-Builder, Bluebeam, Beck/Destiny, Microsoft Project, and Primavera Project Planner (P6).

  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks.

  • Training in design and construction document reading, design specifications, survey theory and techniques.

  • Experience in organizing technical data in a neat and accurate method. Familiar with CSI specification system for construction.

  • Highly developed visual observation and interpretation skills.

  • Ability to work well and maintain a cooperative attitude through high-pressure situations.

  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work while frequently interrupted by phone calls and questions on work in progress.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships.

  • Ability to work closely with variety of trade and craft people in a field work situation. Patience and professionalism are essential.

  • Must be a strong team player with the ability to collaborate with various personnel within and across departments and at all levels of leadership.

  • Work schedule must be flexible to allow extended hours or off-shift work to accommodate changing construction schedule and sequences.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position in an office environment more than 50% of the time, with occasional requirements to move about on the job site.

  • Must be able to access work being done on multiple levels.

  • Hands/Arms: Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

  • Sight:   The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; reading printed and digital documents

  • Hearing: Must be able to work in proximity to loud equipment 25% of the time. Must be able to wear hearing protection as necessary. Often required to communicate with customers and coworkers in an office setting and, on the phone/digital meetings.

  • Speech: Ability to communicate laws, ordinances, plans, regulations, protocols, directives, and standard operating procedures related to project scope. Constantly required to communicate with customers and coworkers in an office setting.

  • Bending/Twisting: minimal. 

  • Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling: minimal.
