Ford Motor Company Plant Environmental Control Engineer (PECE) in Port Elizabeth, South Africa

  • Ensure site environment and related regulatory compliance for existing operations (timely permit renewal, compliance to permit conditions as well as norms and standards).

  • Lead technical aspects and Supports facility and product programs through necessary permit actions, capacity planning studies and environmental project funding requests. (green field, brown field expansion, site decommission etc.)

  • Ensure timely and proper upkeep of Environment Operating System (e.g. EOS Matrix update, EOS task, Internal audit, MRM, conduct ISO 14001 3-rd party audits etc.)

  • Work in close with Regional / Global EQO team and site team to drive regulatory compliance, EOS requirements, aspirational goals.

  • Represents Ford's interests on environmental matters through interaction with external entities (i.e., local, regional, and national regulatory agencies, PRP groups, community groups, trade and professional organizations, non-governmental organizations, etc.)

  • Ensures technical and regulatory support for one or more environmental media/operational subjects (i.e., air, water, wastewater, waste, tanks, materials, underground storage tanks, Environmental Operating System, ISO14001, site reports, decommissioning, remediation, permitting, modeling, regulatory communications, environment testing, site audits, focus visits, etc.).

  • Drives achieving the compliance and Manufacturing business plan objectives and targets (e.g., compliance index, water, waste, energy, energy, hydrocarbons.

  • Conducts daily environmental walks and process verification of high-risk areas. Performs monthly environmental audits in all departments. Presents findings and status of corrective actions at the daily start-up meeting and monthly management reviews.

  • Maintains knowledge of and trains plant personnel in applicable national, regional, and local environmental requirements. Drives the plant culture improvement through coaching, campaigns, training & holding accountable employees violating environmental rules.

  • Develop accurate and complete correspondence (i.e., reports, permit applications, etc.) to support site (offices/labs) environmental compliance, legacy and site remediation projects, and business plan objectives and targets.

  • Tracks progress and spending on environmental capital and expense projects to ensure action items are completed on time and within budget.

  • Utilizes environmental software applications (e.g., GEM, I-Points, Business Objects, SharePoint, E-tracker, modeling software) to help achieve business site objectives and targets.

  • Builds strong, productive working relationships with environmental professionals and manufacturing/non-manufacturing contacts throughout the Company at facility and staff levels. Effectively uses standard procedures and best practices to ensure site environmental compliance and achieve business plan objectives and targets.

  • Ensuring Environment Compliance Index

  • Developing and driving roadmap for aspirational goal and global environment strategies (carbon free electricity, reduce freshwater consumption, waste elimination etc.) and achieve EOS Metrics

  • Timely reporting of monthly metrics, completion of job plan, work order, rollup certificates, internal audit, management review, assurance reports

  • 80% green KPI in line with the Score Card for environmental engineer

  • 0 violations found by management/auditors that were not prior identified & addressed by PECE

  • Plant compliance on the audits (ISO 14001, Waste license, etc.)

  • EOS PMs, CMs timely completion (internal audits, etc.)

  • Timely reporting of EOS status in existing plant & department reports

  • Fundamental understanding of environmental rules and regulations & Manufacturing processes.

  • Strong communication skills and intermediate computer software application abilities.

  • Effective contractor management

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Environmental Engineering/Operations.

  • Graduate Master's level or equivalent preferred.

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience. Experience in RO & effluent plants, and waste handling, hazardous material storage will be advantageous
