UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN Education Specialist and Volunteer Coordinator in PORT ARANSAS, Texas
Assist with the development and implementation of K-12 student and public environmental education and community outreach programs for a wide range of audiences, based on the established goals of the Reserve (www.missionaransas.org/about.html).Present or facilitate hands-on activities, outdoor education experiences, film discussions, interpretive nature tours, and interactive Science on a Sphere (http://sos.noaa.gov/) programs.Lead education tours on a small vessel through the Mission-Aransas Reserve.Coordinate Reserve participation in community outreach events, including the development of interactive educational activities, scheduling of staff or volunteers, and oversight of events.Collect and manage education visitor data.Represent the Reserve and UTMSI at local education meetings with partner groups.Assist with the development, maintenance, and oversight of educational exhibits and facilities.Schedule and coordinate volunteers among a range of programs, including education, stewardship, and research.Train and supervise volunteers to lead interpretive tours of the Wetlands Education Center and Animal Rehabilitation Keep.Develop protocols and printed materials for docent/volunteer recruitment, training, and retention.Maintain volunteer database and communicate with Reserve staff to maintain an updated list of volunteer opportunities.Organize and host bi-annual volunteer appreciation events.Other duties as assigned.
