Wagner Spray Tech Corporation Quality Technician III Job Details | WAGNER Group in Plymouth, Minnesota

Position Objective: Assist in daily activities of Quality Technicians with the goal of utilizing these resources proactively in assessing internal processes (process auditing and reporting) as opposed to solely verifying dimensional and or physical conformance. Examples would be: Audit of safety procedures, Layered process auditing, Standard work / control plan audits, auditing of scrap procedures. Analysis of process output in terms of process capability, i.e. process stability and capability (Cpk). Auditing of corrective action generation, development and follow through. Generate reports on calibration and inspection activity. Responsible for the execution of the company's calibration system. The calibration system is applicable to all measurement and test equipment used to determine the acceptability of components and assemblies used in Wagner products, including equipment in the Engineering and Quality test labs, production areas and the Quality inspection lab and in some limited cases at supplier sites. Assists in Performance of detailed First Article Inspections on a variety of manufactured components and assemblies to determine conformance to specifications. Communicate inspection results through appropriate documentation, i.e. First Article Inspection Reports, SAP movement and disposition, QN's etc. Responsibilities: Provides guidance and training on process auditing and process validation techniques as well as Wagner practices and procedures to Quality Technicians. Performs auditing and process validation on a variety of manufacturing processes. Prepares first article inspection reports on a variety of parts including "tight tolerance" critical components using precision measurement and test equipment. Process audits are used by management and quality engineers to assess production readiness and process capability. First Article Inspection Reports are used by Quality and Engineering to determine approval of production for both in-house and supplier components and/or assemblies. Develops software programs for CMM inspection of components. Administers the Company's calibration program, including equipment in our Intertek certified satellite test lab where the requirements of the ISO/IEC 17025 standard apply. Performs calibrations of a variety of precision inspection and test equipment. Assist in development of calibration procedures for equipment calibrated in-house. Prepares, monitors and maintains records of calibrations to comply with ISO 9001 quality system requirements. This includes a computerized system which contains equipment serialization, calibration dates, reference to methods, resources and results of calibrations. Suggests equipment needs for inspection and testing. Assists in preparing justifications for Capital investments and expense P.O.'s for the purchase of inspection and test equipment. Investigate component/assembly quality issues found to be evident in production processes. Generate reports summarizing inspection and calibration activity. Relationship To Others: Primary work direction is received from the Quality Engineers and Senior Quality Engineer. Frequent communications regarding inspection / audit activities with personnel in Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Test Lab and others within the organization. Occasional discussion with suppliers on specific quality issues and inspection methods. Works closely with calibration service suppliers and equipment suppliers. Dimensions of Position: Works with confidential information such as costs and specifications. Inspection work typically will include: Surface plate work, Optical comparator, Material hardness, Surface finish (profilometer) CMM, Roundness/Cylindricity (Mitutoyo roundness tester. Federal Formscan), Calipers, Micrometers, thread gauges, pin/plug gauges. Calibration work involves a variety of precision measurement and test equipment. Auditing of manufacturing processes and assessment of process capability through statisti al methodology. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Education High school diploma or GED required. Desirable to have certificates in Precision Measurement and Gauging, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance, ISO 17925 for calibration. ASQ Certified Mechanical Inspector certification is also desirable. Experience Minimum of 5 years of experience in an inspection function utilizing precision measurement and test equipment. Necessary to have a thorough knowledge of many types of precision measurement equipment including the use and programming of a CMM and Vision systems. Familiar with the application of sampling plans such as ANSI/ASQ Z1.9. Skills SAP and PC software such as Word, Excel and Access are required at an intermediate level. Basic understanding of statistical data analysis is also required. Working knowledge of analytical/scientific software to include CMM and PCDMIS Position requires above averaged math skills including the knowledge of some trigonometry. Knowledge of and use of metallurgical analysis equipment. Must possess excellent critical thinking and judgment and decision making skills. Attention to detail is critical. Tool used in this occupation include: force gauges, torque testers, absorbance spectrophotometers, fluorescence spectrophotometry, bolt tension meters, tension meters, coating thickness gauges, sonic testers, ultrasonic flaw detectors, and ultrasonic thickness gauges.
