Job Title: Shipping & Receiving Supervisor

Department: Materials

Summary Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in verifying and keepings records on incoming and outgoing shipments and preparing items for shipment by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Attends production meetings to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.

  • Prepares bills of lading and maintains all other related shipping/receiving documents in our EPR system (PLEX).

  • Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.

  • Determines space requirements and position of shipment in trucks and lays out position of shipment.

  • Ensures compliance with all DOT/MDOT regulations regarding shipment of hazardous and non-hazardous material.

  • Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, and seals loaded truck doors.

  • Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas.

  • Manages the internal movement of material inside the shop area.

  • Resolves receiving discrepancies from suppliers.

  • Coordinates all outgoing shipments with respective dock times and customer dock times.

  • Compiles records of unfilled orders.

  • Schedules pick-up times with customer logistics department.

  • Coordinates shipments and receipts outside business hours when necessary.

  • Posts weight and shipping charges.

  • Manages direct report to include time records, training, disciplinary actions, standard work, work prioritization.

  • Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of shipping methods, equipment performance and quality of product.

  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.

  • Works with customers to set-up logistics of customer loads.

  • Manages the site plan for PIV use, to include training and re-certification.

  • Will be required to maintain PIV license and use frequently to move material as needed.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
