JobDuties: TheMaintenance Worker1ispartoftheParksandOutdoor Recreation Divisionandamemberoftheregionalmaintenance teamthatincludes theRegional Maintenance Manager, MaintenanceTeamSupervisor, Maintenance Workers 1&2,and Groundskeepers.The position reports totheMaintenance Team Supervisor inthenortheast portion of region 6and performs awide variety ofsemi-skilled ormanual workrepairing, maintaining,andimprovinghabitatareasandvegetation aswellasgroundsandfacilitiesatstateparks,fishing accesssites,wildlife managementareas,andadministrativefacilities.Incoordination withtheRegional Maintenance Manager, Maintenance TeamSupervisor andregional staff,theposition directly andthrough subordinates performs maintenance tasks,andassistsinestablishing workflowsforregular orroutine tasks. Thispositionmaybeassignedtomultiplegeographicunitsorbecalledupontoassistwith,collaborateon,or sharemaintenance functions ofanother geographic unitascircumstancesrequire. _EssentialFunctions(MajorDuties or Responsibilities):_ * * * • Operatesequipmentsuchasmowers,poweredweedtrimmers,pick-ups,ATVs, chainsaws, power and hand tools. • Performsbasicrepairstobuildingstructures(includinghistoricpreservationatcertainlocations) including windows, doors, floors, walls, fences. • Scrapes,paints,stainsortreatsbuildingandstructuralsurfacesincludingwindowsdoors,picnictables,shelters. • Installs,repairsandmaintainswood,steel,wireandothertypesoffencing;signs,posts,kiosks,etc. • Performs landscaping activities that include mowing, tree pruning, hazardous tree/sagebrush removal, irrigation and general care and planting of lawns, shrubs and trees to provide the site with safe and appropriatevegetationtoreduceweedproblems.Thisworkincludestheuseofchainsaws,pruningsaws, mowers, tractors, weed trimmers and backhoe. • Makesgeneralrepairstoequipmentnotifiesotherswhenextensiverepairsarerequired • Performweedcontroleffortsincludingchemical,biological,andmechanical controls.Coordinateswith Maintenance Supervisor to track and report weed maintenance activities for the annual weed report. Comprehensive weed control efforts may include specialized training and work in chemical use, hydrogeology, and wetland management and permitting. • Assists with the County spray crews/ contractors while monitoring work performed.Makes site assignments and sets priorities for work. • Gathersandremovesgarbage,debris,litterandperformsjanitorialandcleaningtasks. • Performsbasicpreventativemaintenanceforequipmentsuchascheckingfluids,belts,hosesandfilters and notifies others when significant repairs are required. • RecordsandfilespaperworkassociatedwithdailymaintenanceactivitiesAlsoassistswithorderingof supplies andmaterials, completing vehiclereports andotherpersonnel logsandtimereporting within required timeframes. • Performsmanualwork to construct and/or repair property boundaryfences,using permanentfences to minimize trespass by livestock. • Performsmanualworkin maintainingroads, culverts,andbridgesby using a variety of heavy and light equipmentsuch as backhoes,dump trucks,and hand tools. • Performshabitatdevelopmentandmaintenanceprojectssuchastreeplanting,grazingprograms, mowing, farming, waterfowl nesting structures. • MonitorsFWPsitesandmakespubliccontacts,documents incidentsandeventsrelatedtopublicsafety, resource impacts. • Maycollectfeesandeducatevisitorsonrulesandregulationsandreportviolationsobservedto superiors for follow up. • Mayevaluateandfamiliarizeallstaffonequipmentoperationandmaintenance. • Participates inandmayleadsafety trainings andensureproperuseofpersonal protective equipment on all job duties. • Assistswithmajormaintenanceconstructionandstabilizationprojectsonsite. • In conjunction with theMaintenance Supervisor andother regional staff,theemployee will help establishthecorrectprocedurestocompleteawidevarietyofskilled,semi-skilledormanualwork.repairing, constructing and maintaining buildings, land, water,grounds, and relatedfacilities. • Alwaysconscientiousofequipmentuseanddemonstratesgoodleadershiptootherstaffbypayingextra attention tovisitoruseareasandcultural andenvironmentalresources whileperforming jobduties. • Maymonitormaintenanceneedsforfiresuppressionanddetectionsystemsthroughroutineinspection and periodic tests. Responds to malfunctions. • May monitor maintenanceneeds on visitor center security system throughroutineinspectionandperiodictests. Responds tomalfunctions and notifies others when extensive troubleshootingorrepairs arerequired. *_PhysicalandEnvironmentalDemands:_ Thispositionfrequentlyrequiressomeofficeandcomputerworkbutmostoftenrequiresfieldworkunder adverse weather andenvironmentalconditions that may include: • Temperatureextremes,snowandrain,dustandmosquitoinfestedareas. • Confinedareas,sometimesforextendedperiods,includingattics,cellarsandexcavatedareas. • Wastewaterandsewagedisposalsystemswithpotentialforcontactwithdisease,virusandbacteria. • AreasfrequentedbyrodentswiththepotentialforcontactwithdiseasesuchasHantavirus. • Hazardouschemicals,includingvariouspesticides,solvents,paintsandfuels. • 110and220-voltelectricalsystemsandincloseproximitytoburiedandoverheadpowerlines. • Heights,includingroofsandscaffolding. • Weekend,evening,andholidayhoursincludingoccasionalovertime. • Frequentexertion,oftenforextendedperiods,includinglifting,carrying,diggingandpounding _Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: _ Knowledge: · Working knowledge of methods and practices of general maintenance and construction work as related to buildings, facilities and grounds, use and care of tools, and operation of a variety of heavy and light construction and farm equipment. · General knowledge of carpentry, woodworking, plumbing, welding, electrical and masonry work, engine repair and maintenance, and acknowledged industry standards required. Ability to perform some combination thereof preferred. · Knowledge of operations and maintenance of water and boiler systems preferred. · Frequently works independently without a direct supervisor being present; able to take initiative; ability to achieve and maintain a high level of quality work performance as interpreted by the supervisor; recognize and accept authority. * Ability to maintain weed control training at an appropriate level in coordination with Maintenance Worker 2, Maintenance Team Supervisor and Regional Maintenance Manager. · In certain situations, awareness skills must be applied to situations where other factors may require a degree of sensitivity and restraint such as in riparian areas or historic and cultural sites (i.e. historic preservation work at Bannack town site). * Must behave ethically and appropriately when serving visitors, providing accurate information about site facilities, regulations, fees, and recreational opportunities. Skills and Abilities: · Effective communication and computer skills, both verbal and written. · Working knowledge of methods and practices of general maintenance and construction work as related to buildings, facilities and grounds, use and care of tools, and operation of a variety of heavy and light construction equipment. · Ability to safely follow all traffic and state laws and ability to tow trailer with proper towing and safety protocols. · Participates in and if qualified, provides training in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). · Must possess or have the ability to obtain Basic First Aid/CPR certification. · Computer skills for data input on spreadsheets or other reporting programs with the ability to use tablets, computers, etc. for maintenance reporting purposes. _Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):_ The knowledge, skills, and abilities of this position are normally attained through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or equivalency and 1 year of job-related experience.
