Position Brand Description:
The Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Associate Director provides technical leadership and expertise in the development, implementation, and maintenance of HSE programs and processes for the Lilly Kenosha County (LKC) site. As a recently acquired manufacturing site, this role will be responsible for creation of the site HSE Management System, recruiting HSE vendor support staff, conducting facility and equipment design reviews to reduce safety and environmental risk, and partner with Lilly’s facility delivery organization to ensure effective contractor safety oversight. The role is responsible to ensure compliance to federal, state and local regulations and company policies, and be a champion for Operational Excellence to achieve two key outcomes: Nobody Gets Hurt and Sustainable Use of Environmental Resources. This role is a technical leadership position responsible for functional mentorship and influencing the broader organization in support of our HSE vision. This role will have ownership and execution responsibilities for some HSE programs, and there will be some administrative leader responsibilities including direct reports.
Key Objectives and Deliverables:
Be a collaborative and inclusive team member supporting the broader leadership team across all aspects of operational readiness and startup for Lilly operations.
Support the project team to deliver the facility expansion as a key stakeholder. Provide feedback and support on design decisions and startup plan impacting HSE aspects. Collaborate to ensure the right decisions are made to meet project deliverables and compliance requirements. Partner with Global Facilities Delivery (Lilly’s global capital delivery organization) on contractor safety.
Develop, implement and maintain the site HSE Management System to ensure it effectively manages all HSE aspects and drives continuous improvement in HSE performance.
Be a key member of the site HSE Lead Team to help ensure it is meeting the requirements established in the HSE Management System, and coach/influence site leadership to own implementation of HSE programs as well as the results.
Develop and manage HSE metrics and business initiatives for performance improvement, injury reduction and risk elimination.
Develop and lead the implementation of the site HSE cultural improvement plan; this includes working with and influencing the site leadership team on implementation strategies and resourcing plans.
Serve as the functional SME in the development and implementation of HSE programs and training.
Ensure company and regulatory reporting requirements are met.
Mentor HSE staff, further develop the capability of the HSE function, and drive integration of the function into the broader site organization.
Provide supervisory oversight for HSE staff and contract partners.
Manage the front-line interface with internal auditors and external regulators and coordinate plant responses to findings.
Interface with key partners (e.g., network manufacturing sites, ETC and Global HSE) to ensure programs are consistent with company expectations.
Have external focus and benchmark best practices internally and externally to the company.
Basic Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, environmental science, engineering or equivalent science degree
Demonstrated solid technical HSE background, with a minimum of 8 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
Expertise in OSHA and EPA requirements
Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies on HSE requirements
Experience with implementing and managing HSE compliance programs in accordance with regulatory requirements
Demonstrated experience in improving HSE Management Systems
Proven ability to lead teams and solve complex HSE problems
Must have a strong ability to form effective relationships with all levels of the organization
Additional Preferences:
Pharmaceutical manufacturing experience
HSE-related certification such as CHMM, CIH or CSP
Basic laboratory background
Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally and negotiate win-win solutions

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$111,000 - $162,800
Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
