Champlain Valley Family Center Prevention Counselor in Plattsburgh, New York

Job Summary: As a Prevention Counselor at Champlain Valley Family Center, you will be assigned to one of our local schools that has an opening. You will play a crucial role in fostering a safe and supportive environment for students through proactive intervention and community engagement. Your primary responsibility will be to provide assessments, individual counseling, and administration of evidence based curriculum in a class setting, aimed at preventing and addressing various social, emotional, and behavioral issues among students.Responsibilities:Assessment and Evaluation:Conduct assessments to identify students at risk of social, emotional, or behavioral challenges.Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to gather comprehensive information about student needs.Individual Counseling:Provide one-on-one counseling sessions to students dealing with issues such as substance abuse, bullying, mental health concerns, etc.Develop personalized intervention plans and goals for students to promote personal growth and well-being.Educational Support and Advocacy:Advocate for student needs within the school community and educational system.Provide resources and guidance to teachers and staff on identifying and supporting students in need of prevention services.Documentation and Reporting:Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and interventions.Prepare reports and summaries as required by school administration and regulatory agencies.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Social Work or related Human Services field.Experience in school counseling or related settings preferred.Strong understanding of child and adolescent development, mental health issues, and prevention strategies.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations including students, families, and community stakeholders.MUST have reliable transportationBenefits:CVFC provides free Vision, Life Insurance and Long Term Disability and 401(k) after one year anniversary with 4% Employer contribution, and tuition assistance after 6 months of Full Time employment. Minimum Salary: 19 Maximum Salary: 21 Salary Unit: Yearly
