UPMC Sr. Director, Business Intelligence and Data Strat in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Purpose:

The Senior Director, Business Intelligence and Data Strategist at UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation, is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving the organization's data-driven decision-making capabilities. The incumbent should have the experience and motivation to bring forth actionable business intelligence recommendations and solutions, through harnessing data analytics, business intelligence, and reporting. This position plays a pivotal role in advancing the mission of UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation by harnessing the power of data to drive fundraising success and support the organization's vital programs and initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic partner to leadership and a cross-functional teams, by developing and implementing a comprehensive data and analytics strategy aligning with the Foundation's goals and objectives. This includes working with key leaders to identify key performance indicators, establish benchmarks, and outline strategies to leverage data for improved decision-making, increase fundraising outcomes and drive organizational alignment.

  • Develop new and ongoing enterprise business intelligence (BI) service offerings, content creation, and value propositions to support and improve Foundation wide business processes that enables fact-based decision making and ad-hoc analysis and insight generation.

  • Collaborate with end users to identify needs and opportunities for improved data management and delivery through interactive real-time dashboards and key performance indicators using tools such as: Microsoft Power BI, SQL Server Reporting Services, SAP Crystal Reports, IBM Cognos, Qlik, or newly identified BI tools.

  • Provide ongoing development and maintenance of an operational data store and foundation data warehouse using BI best practices, relational structures, dimensional data modeling, structured query language skills, data warehouse and reporting techniques.

  • Improve and streamline processes regarding data flow and quality to improve data accuracy, viability, and value.

  • Provide end-user support and encourage user adoption; support for end-users of BI tools; train end-users on basic functionality.

  • Under general direction, responsible for converting business requirements and high-level data collection needs into well-specified analyses, reporting and visualizations. Fully document all technical aspects of applications developed for the organization to ensure sufficient information exists to support ongoing maintenance by others.

  • Gather BI requirements, designs solutions, and collaborates with developers on their delivery. Utilize selected platforms, including SQL Server, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, and Power BI, to successfully deploy business intelligence solutions to satisfy information requirements.

  • Work with the CFO and Data Steering Committee to review and assess new requests by business area(s) for feasibility, cost-effectiveness, conflicting business area needs, and business benefit.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology/computer science, business analytics, or related field.

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum of five years experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or related roles.

  • Minimum three years application development experience in a Windows/Microsoft-based environment (including Microsoft Visual Basic, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams).

  • Proven track record of developing and implementing data strategies to drive business outcomes.

  • Strong analytical skills, with proficiency in statistical analysis, data modeling and data visualization techniques.

  • Experience using common BI tools, including Microsoft Power BI, SQL Server Reporting Services, SAP Crystal Reports, IBM Cognos, etc. Experience working in a Microsoft SharePoint environment.

  • Ability to interpret and write SQL queries, stored procedures and integration packages using SSIS (SQL Service Integration Services).Experience with administration and customization of BlackBaud products, such as Raisers Edge. BlackBaud Certification in Raiser's Edge NXT and bCRE a plus. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
