UPMC Senior Research Assistant - Gynecological Oncology in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Full Time Senior Research Assistant, BS to support the Gynecological Oncology lab!

Our laboratory focuses on gynecologic cancer specifically ovarian and endometrial cancer. Our main focus is preclinical and translational looking at new therapeutics targeting tumor immune microenvironment especially myeloid cells to enhance response to immunotherapy and to identify novel targets to response to DNA damage response. Further, my lab investigate resistance mechanisms caused by immune cells and other targets leading to resistance to immunotherapy or DNA damage response agents.

This position will work Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. Hours are subject to change based on business needs.

This position is grant funded.

The Senior Research Assistant, Basic Science is responsible for accurately performing research projects according to established study design and procedures and is under limited faculty or Research Associate supervision. This role acts as a lead resource for other laboratory support personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in obtaining educational resources necessary to perform and interpret research and to remain abreast in research area of function.

  • Maintain a safe clean laboratory-working environment including appropriate equipment maintenance and usage by ensuring the adherence to laboratory and hospital policies and standards.

  • Ensure the proper preparation of label, proper storage and disposal of reagents, and proper equipment calibration for research projects.

  • Follow appropriate research policies and procedures including all applicable laws and regulations and maintains scientific integrity including accurate data storage.

  • Perform approved research projects according to defined protocols and procedures including appropriate collection, recording, storage, and analysis of data, and reporting of results.

  • Assist with training programs for other laboratory personnel on research activities and practice.

· Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, biology, or other basic science.

· Two years’ experience in a research environment with at least one year in the designated specialty of research.

· Familiar with basic assays such as tissue culture, cell lines and tissue, analyzing protein and RNA signaling assays (western blot, qPCR, etc.), handling/processing tissue and blood, performing immune assays such as flowcytometry, Eliza, and in-vivo animal experiments preferred.
