Qualitative Researcher

 

The Division of Health Services Research within the Department of Urology at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Qualitative Researcher to support several qualitative research studies. The responsibilities include participating in and leading several studies. Candidates should demonstrate understanding and skill in using qualitative research methods, whether through formal education or other work experience.

Job Summary

 

Executes protocol-related research procedures, activities, outreach, and education. Manages a complex program or study or multiple programs and studies. Collects and analyzes data and complies with all policies and regulations. Recommends improvements to policy and procedure.

Essential Functions

    • Develop data collection guides (e.g., interviews, focus groups).
    • Manage qualitative data, including the de-identification process, prepare files for importing into qualitative data management software (e.g., NVivo), and transcription.
    • Conduct semi-structured interviews or focus groups using guides that balance predetermined questions with the ability to pursue novel routes of questioning.
    • Participate in qualitative coding and analysis across multiple types of data sources (transcripts, videos, photographs).
    • Communicate regularly with members of study team, collaborators, and research participants.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to review ongoing mixed methods studies that integrate quantitative and qualitative work.
    • Prepare and deliver presentations of ongoing work at research meetings.
