APTIM Project Geologist in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Job Overview:

APTIM Environmental & Infrastructure, Inc. is currently seeking a Professional Geologist with experience in environmental site characterization and remediation for a full-time position in our Pittsburgh, PA office to support both PA and NJ projects. Primary responsibilities will include the development of proposals, preparation of work plans, completion of final reports, and recommendation and implementation of remedial action activities. Other tasks may include but are not limited to the design and installation of groundwater monitoring and extraction well networks, procurement of subcontractors, and mentoring and development of junior level scientists.

In this position, you will provide project management and technical / regulatory direction to project staff and clients involved in site investigation / remediation projects and regularly interact with existing and prospective clients and establish collaborative project teams with engineers, geologists, and scientists. You will also be tasked with supporting business development activities to foster the growth for APTIM's remediation practice in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

The successful candidate will possess the ability to communicate clearly and confidently, both written and verbally, to all project team members including client representatives, state and federal regulators, and APTIM colleagues alike. Strong interpersonal skills with a team-oriented demeanor are a must.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Manage projects in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and serve clients as a Technical Support Lead.

  • Evaluate environmental data from site investigation activities and develop conceptual site models and cost effective clean-up alternatives.

  • Review investigation and clean-up cost estimates to support New Jersey remediation funding source and financial assurance requirements.

  • Ensure conformance to applicable State and National Codes and Standards as well as Company Policies and Procedures.

  • Proven budget management, communication, writing, time management and organization skills

  • Mentor junior level staff to better interpret and apply NJDEP and PADEP regulations and guidance.

  • Solid familiarity with state and federal regulations applicable to environmental investigations.

  • Design and implement site characterization activities.

  • Evaluate field data to determine appropriate remedial action alternatives.

  • Proficient in planning, conducting, and analysing aquifer tests.

  • Communicate field results and recommended appropriate course of action to client representatives and regulatory personnel.

  • Possess a "Safety First" work ethic.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS or BA in Environmental Engineering/Geology/Science.

  • Current Accreditation as a Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP) in good standing a plus

  • 8-15 years of relevant and applicable experience.

  • Possess 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training with current 8-hour refresher certificate.

  • Possess active registration as a Professional Geologist, preferably in Pennsylvania.

  • Intermediate experience with groundwater modeling a plus.

  • Ability to wear proper PPE for work on hazardous waste sites; lifting and physical work will be required.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

  • Core competency in Microsoft Office Products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work well with project teams.

  • Ability to travel locally up to 30%.
