GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Responsible for providing assistance and effective support to pharmacy operations, pharmacy automated dispensing systems, other pharmacy information systems and pharmacy billing work queues. Requires strong analytical skills in gathering information from users and defining work problems and aids in resolving work problems. Requires strong communication and interaction skills. Responsible for providing professional consultative oversight for pharmacy operations (workflows and efficiency) and pharmacy automation systems.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Requires strong operational understanding of pharmacy workflow, schedules, automated dispensing systems, and other implemented technologies. Requires strong communication skills in developing rapport with front line staff and interdepartmental relationships. Supports pharmacy management in implementation of initiatives. (20%)

  • Provides oversight over pharmacy dispensing work flow including, but not limited to, central pharmacy, IV room, narcotic room, and other areas overseen by the pharmacy department. Assists in scheduling, payroll, training, safety, and analyzing workflow. Coordinates daily workflow within respective area (i.e. Administration, Operations) which may require staffing/scheduling adjustments as necessary. Maintains scheduling including technician master schedule and coordinates necessary changes in department scheduling, develops, monitors and assess technical workflow including work related staffing, automated dispensing systems and computer systems. Assists the manager in recordkeeping of personnel information including time keeping. Acts as a contact person for payroll questions and paperwork associated with time and attendance. Coordinates and participates in orientation and training of new employees. Assists administration with competency assessment and documentation. (10%)

  • Provides training, support, implementation and coordinates improvements to the systems contributing to performance improvement and medication safety initiatives. Trains new employees and develops and presents programs specific to new informatics functionality and enhancements to the pharmacy staff. Performs all controlled and non-controlled substance audits as necessary. Assures the integrity of data produced by the pharmacy computer by adequately building and maintaining computer files using established guidelines and Ensures charges for medication are correct. (30%)

  • Responsible for supporting and/or coordinating upgrades, installations and implementation of automated systems/equipment. Provides on-going support to resolve problems as they occur with automated systems required to support pharmacy services. Assists in troubleshooting complex technological issues including but not limited to, automated dispensing systems, label printers, and reports. (20%)

  • Actively participates in hospital pharmacy leadership meetings and identify quality improvement initiatives to promote safe medication use. Provides oversight and audits as necessary related to technology assisted workflow systems. (5%)

  • Participates and leads performance improvement and regulatory compliance efforts. Provides input into the development of policies, procedures, and operating standards to comply with regulatory/ compliance requirements such as The Joint Commission, Board of Pharmacy, etc. to assure quality pharmaceutical care. (10%)

  • Maintain all pertinent documentation as required. Perform assigned job responsibilities with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Conveys a positive and professional image at all times. (5%)

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • Associate’s degree

  • 1-3 years experience as a hospital Pharmacy Technician

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 1-3 years experience with computer proficiency, mathematical skills and a working knowledge of safety and quality

  • Nationally Registered Certified Pharmacy Technician (NCRPhT)
