UPMC Part Time Nursing Assistant - 6 South in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
UPMC Passavant is hiring a Part Time Nursing Assistant to support our 6 South Surgical Oncology Unit.
Direct Patient Care: Assist the RN with all activities of daily living, including bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, and ambulating patients.
Patient Safety and Environment: Maintain a safe and clean environment by completing safety checks, organizing patient rooms, cleaning equipment, changing bed linens, and keeping hallways clear.
Supply and Equipment Management: Acquire and distribute supplies and equipment, perform messenger functions, order and charge/credit supplies, set up patient care equipment, and stock patient rooms and unit supply areas.
Patient Nourishment and Communication: Deliver patient nourishments, fill water pitchers, distribute patient mail, and provide companionship/supervision as required.
Core Nursing Responsibilities: Perform blood glucose tests, monitor weights, take vital signs, record intake and output (I&O), collect specimens, and provide Foley care. Apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints per protocol.
Feedback and Reporting: Provide feedback to the RN regarding patient care and report changes in patient status.
Professional Development: Receive feedback constructively, identify learning needs, and take action to improve knowledge, skills, and performance. Participate in self-review as requested.
Communication and Teamwork: Communicate clearly and effectively with all healthcare team members. Understand cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in the health professions. Support safety in the workplace and develop productive working relationships.
Departmental Support: Suggest and support changes within the department, assume responsibility for assignments, and view problems as challenges. Report equipment malfunctions and establish effective communication strategies.
Universal Unit Activities: Respond to call lights and telephones, pass meal trays, transport patients, and provide diversional activities to reduce or prevent the use of restraints.
Documentation and Clerical Functions: Document in the medical record according to established procedures and complete clerical functions as needed.
Compliance and Safety: Adhere strictly to all policies and practices related to patient care and hospital information. Respond to emergent situations within the scope of the nursing assistant role.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant or EIC training program.
Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR certification required based on AHA standards, including both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required based on AHA standards, including both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
Act 34 clearance.
