Laboratory Research Technician III

 

The candidate will join the Mouse Embryo Services (MES) Core, within the Department of Immunology. Mouse Embryo Services (MES) Core provides a broad, comprehensive range of services to University of Pittsburgh investigators. The individual will be involved in all services in MES core, including generation of gene editing mouse models, cryopreservation, recovery of mouse lines from cryopreserved germplasm and long-term storage of mouse sperm/embryos. Individuals will be cross trained to provide assistance as necessary to other projects in the Core laboratory.

Job Summary

Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.

Essential Functions

Duties include and not limited:

1. 1. Mouse surgery including embryo transfer, vasectomy male surgery 2. Manage mouse colony. Duties include mouse strain breeding, collecting samples for genotyping, weaning et al. 3. Re-derive mouse from cryopreserved sperm and embryos. 4. Mouse sperm/embryo cryopreservation. 5. Generation of gene modified mouse lines, performing mouse pronuclear microinjection and cytoplasmic injection 6. Cryo-preserved samples shipment 7. Maintenance of timely communication with the primary investigator (PI) to provide updates on all scientific projects.
