Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Chemistry is seeking a full-time Laboratory Instructor for the Chemistry Undergraduate Laboratories. This is an excellent opportunity if you thrive in an interesting and challenging work environment and enjoy working with students in a laboratory setting. Core responsibilities include: Supervising class activities for laboratory courses at times in a lecture setting but primarily working with students in the laboratory during class. During the academic year, approximately 50% of the time is spent in direct work with students and Teaching Assistant's (TA). Lecturing on laboratory techniques and operation of instrumentation. Holding regular office hours and help sessions for laboratory courses. Preparing solutions and administrative work in support of lab classes, which may include grading student work. Collaborating with lab staff to maintain a safe, well organized lab environment for students. Participating in Teaching Assistant (TA) training and oversight. Developing and troubleshooting new experiments and lecture demonstrations. Participating in outreach activities.

You should demonstrate: Excellent interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to adapt protocols for classroom experiments and provide technical support. Strong knowledge of chemistry, especially as related to quantitative analysis and organic chemistry, and safety in the laboratory. Qualifications: Bachelor or Master's degree in Chemistry. 3-5 years of post-graduate laboratory or teaching experience. Requirements: Successful background check Additional Information: This is a full-time / part-time (37.5 hours/week), non-exempt position.
