Financial Aid and Admissions Administrator
The Admissions and Financial Aid Office is responsible for administering all financial aid and admission for the Doctor of Medicine degree. Information on how to apply to medical school, required courses, as well as admission and financial aid deadlines can be found on this site.
Job Summary
Analyzes applicant financial aid information, selects candidates, and determines awarded financial aid. Assists in financial aid policy preparation and in applications for government loan program federal funds. Conducts applicant interviews and administers assigned financial aid programs. Coordinates the admissions process for applicants to include active correspondence with and visit logistics for prospective students. Participates in recruitment activities and projects.
Essential Functions
Financial Aid Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, counseling students on financial aid opportunities/programs and the SOM policies and procedures governing financial aid; and assisting in the awarding and processing of federal, state, University grants, and institutional and federal loans and for financial literacy programs coordinated with the Curriculum Committee of the School of Medicine. The candidate will be responsible for reviewing the accuracy of financial aid applications (verification) and assisting with financial planning workshops for students (such as loan counseling and budgeting/debt management sessions). In addition, the candidate will assist in the creation/maintenance of policy/procedure handbook for the department, financial aid publications, and web information. This candidate will serve as the primary contact for outside scholarships and will be responsible for posting and communicating scholarship opportunities to students and applicants. Admissions responsibilities will include, but not limited to, conducting informational sessions to prospective students during interview days and recruiting events; reviewing applications for potential interviews; preparing application summaries for the admissions committee; leading the team-based exercise during interview days; and maintaining the website and social media presence for the department. The person holding this position will coordinate all components of the medical student tour guide program. This includes but is not limited to training tour guides and scheduling tours. The position also requires periodic travel, some of which will have overnight stays and may occasionally require attendance at school events in the evenings and on weekends
Physical Effort
The essential functions of the position are communications, and the incumbent must be able to use the telephone and computer. Normal business office, generally sedentary activities. Must also have the ability to stand for long periods of time and have the ability to travel.
