Electronic Resources Liaison Librarian

Responsibilities:

The Electronic Resources Liaison Librarian reports to the Head of Electronic Resources and is responsible for managing the lifecycle of electronic resources, including databases, eBooks, serials, streaming media, and the like. The incumbent is responsible for developing and overseeing assessment strategies and conducting ongoing assessments of electronic resource acquisitions and transformative agreements; working with vendors and library subject liaisons to demonstrate and trial new resources; reviewing license agreements to ensure they have appropriate terms; and with library liaisons to publicize agreements and license terms, including OA publishing agreements.

Specifically, the incumbent in this position is expected to:

Manage the life cycle of electronic resources, including databases, e-books, streaming video, serials, and the like.

Maintain documents pertaining to electronic resource acquisitions, including service agreements, orders, invoices, and manage a register of all resources purchased.

Collaborate with Liaisons to evaluate electronic resource acquisitions to determine if they are still relevant and if there are comparable resources we should review, and then work with appropriate vendors to set up product demonstrations and any subsequent training/onboarding sessions.

Review license agreements, amendments, and product order forms for electronic resource acquisitions to determine if they contain the appropriate terms and conditions, coordinate with Liaison Librarians as necessary to determine if terms and conditions are applicable to the resource and work with the Head of Electronic Resources if license terms need to be modified.

Collaborate with library subject liaisons on ways to publicize OA publishing agreements and training opportunities for Pitt researchers

Manage content for the Open Access website by creating descriptions for newly added or updated transformative agreements

Research evaluation methods for electronic resource acquisitions and Open Access support programs to help determine if current practices are effective and which Open Access support models the organization should pursue.

Identify, evaluate, and stay current with emerging trends, resources, practices, and standards in electronic resource management and current and anticipated user and disciplinary needs.

 

Librarians at the University of Pittsburgh are members of the faculty and are expected to demonstrate continuous professional development in addition to performing their specific responsibilities. This expectation includes such activities as participating in and contributing to departmental, library and campus-wide committees or working groups as well as the profession at a regional, national, and/or international level, maintaining a broad awareness of current and emerging issues that affect their particular areas of expertise, participating in relevant publishing and presentation opportunities, and pursuing knowledge of professional trends and developments that can be applied to evolving research, services and collections. Approximately 10% of the librarian's time should be directed toward such activities and will be included as part of the annual evaluation.

 

Required:

ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS or equivalent advanced degree

Strong customer service attitude, as well as a positive, proactive approach to problem

solving

Working knowledge of integrated library systems

Ability to manage projects, develop policies or drive library initiatives across functional lines.

Demonstrated success in engaging with colleagues across the University as well as with external vendors and consortia in a collaborative and construction fashion.

Public service expertise and experience, preferably in direct patron engagement areas

 

 

Preferred:

Three years of professional experience working in an academic library

Working knowledge of metadata standards and best practices

Experience working with electronic resources in a consortium or shared environment

Experience with knowledge bases, discovery services, link resolvers, and authentication

Prior experience with Ex Libris products Alma and Primo

 

Salary: The rank is open, and the salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, with a starting salary of $60,000. Comprehensive benefits package includes health and wellness plans, retirement savings plans, one-month 20 working days vacation per year, and tuition assistance.

The successful candidate will meet the criteria for appointment at the rank of Librarian I, II, or III and will be hired on an initial 3-year renewable contract.
