POSITION SUMMARY
The Bridge Maintenance Foreman in the Department of Mobility and Infrastructure actively participates with and supervises a team of skilled professionals in the maintenance of city-owned bridges and related structures. This hands-on leader ensures that all maintenance tasks are executed to the highest standards of quality and safety. The Bridge Maintenance Foreman coordinates maintenance efforts, oversees detailed record-keeping, and handles inquiries from the public and other city departments.

Union: This position is included in the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Union, Local 2037 and will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding.

A current, valid Class C Pennsylvania Driver's License is required prior to appointment and must be maintained throughout employment. Commercial Driver's License preferred, not required.

QUALIFYING REQUIREMENTS :
Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed, and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.
WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show five (5) years of full-time experience in bridge maintenance operations and bridge construction . Two (2) years of this experience must include supervisory experience, supervising construction . (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
EDUCATION/TRAINING : The application must clearly show a high school diploma or a GED Equivalency.
EQUIVALENCY : None permitted for this position. Therefore, no education/training and/or work experience may be substituted toward the qualifying requirements listed above.

POSITION DUTIES
Supervises and leads the self-perform bridge maintenance crew in all repair and maintenance activities.
Supervises a crew of maintenance workers performing manual labor and operating light to heavy equipment to perform standard or routine maintenance/repairs/replacement of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, roadway structures, and drainage facilities.
Aides the crew in the performance of their tasks/assignments to meet operational demands within organizational requirements.
Inspects work daily while in progress and upon completion to ensure quality of work and adherence to standards.
Manages assigned personnel; evaluates work; recommends and implements approved disciplinary and/or corrective action; provides training and/or technical assistance.
Inspects bridges and related infrastructure for structural integrity and safety.
Assists the Bridge Maintenance Supervisor in developing and implementing cost effective repairs based on designs provided by the Bridges and Structures Division.
Maintains and prepares accurate reports on payroll, job assignments, asset management system, preventive maintenance, disciplinary action, sick leave, overtime, mileage, equipment usage, etc.
Addresses inquiries and complaints from the public and other City Departments regarding bridge maintenance.
Orders tools and supplies necessary to complete assignments in accordance with departmental procedures.
Assists in budget preparation for the maintenance area and monitors operational costs.
Maintains records/documents, both manually and via electronic devices (i.e. IPAD, etc.), often using the city’s Cartegraph System.
Serves as department liaison with other City departments, outside agencies, etc. on assigned projects.
Plans, organizes, and controls the materials, equipment, and personnel under jurisdiction to achieve program goals, with a focus on public convenience and employee safety.
Manages area of responsibility in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and union agreements to ensure fair treatment of employees.
Works evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
Performs other related tasks/duties as assigned or required.
