2025 Program Information

Duquesne Light Company offers summer internships that provide a hands-on, meaningful employment opportunity in a supportive setting that cultivates learning and collaboration. Duquesne Light’s internship program will provide you with a valuable experience and a solid start to your career in various disciplines.

  • Internships are full-time (40 hours/week), paid, and run for 12 weeks (May-August).

  • Internships are located in Pittsburgh and follow DLH’s Hybrid Work Model (described below).

  • Candidates must be full-time, degree-seeking students enrolled in an accredited college or university and have completed their Sophomore year of studies.

  • Candidates must be in good academic standing.

  • Candidates must be willing to work the required schedule as defined in the job description.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability through studies, employment or extracurricular activities.

  • Aptitude for problem solving; strong communication skills.

Overall Purpose:

The Continuous Improvement & Organizational Effectiveness Intern, is a position within the Corporate Strategy Office at DLC. Guided by the DLC Executive Team, the Continuous Improvement & Change Management Team is responsible for driving a culture of sustainable continuous improvement and identifying compelling ideas within the organization that can be used to improve efficiencies, enhance customer satisfaction, cost savings and drive operational excellence within DLC.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

The Continuous Improvement & Change Management Intern, will be responsible for activities across three primary areas:

  1. The Accumulation of Continuous Improvement Ideas
  • Support the preparation all materials required to host the ideation sessions under the guidance of the CI Office

  • Coordinating with the change management organization pre-Ideation sessions including any training required

  1. The Tracking of Idea Implementation
  • Learn organization methodology utilized for implementing Continuous Improvement Projects.

  • Tracking progress of all ideas as they progress through the stage gates.

  • Basic program management activities such as status reporting, schedules, issues, and risks

  1. Organization Effectiveness Adoption of Idea Implementation
  • Support the Organizational Change Management group with communication efforts (i.e. drafting communications)

  • Support the Business Process Management group by translating process improvement opportunities

  • Begin to learn a structured methodology and assist in change management and business process management activities

  • Assist in completing change management and process improvement assessments

Education/Experience:

  • Enrolled student currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. Candidates must have completed their sophomore year of classes.

  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA.

  • Demonstrated interest in continuous improvement and/or change management.

  • Experience with process mapping, process analysis and project management preferred.

  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility and integrity.

Skills/Abilities:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment.

Physical Requirements:

Work will be conducted in a hybrid environment with some time working remotely, and some time required to be in-office/on-site. Candidates must be within close proximity to Pittsburgh.

Other:

Applicants must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and social media screen.

Hybrid Work:

All internships follow our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Interns must be in the immediate Pittsburgh area for the summer. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.
