U-Haul Workplace Solutions Manager in Phoenix, Arizona

The Workplace Solutions Manager is responsible for resolving employee relations and compliance-related issues companywide while mitigating risk by educating/training and mentoring managers to support a team member oriented, high-performance culture.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic hands-on support in Employee Relations (ER), develop and implement HR policies to satisfy legal requirements and ensure the organization's treatment of team members is consistent with its core business values and objectives.

  • Provide support to field personnel, company executives and all departments to ensure adherence to all company policy, procedure, and guidelines.

  • Maintain good communication and positive relationships with team members to promote team member satisfaction.

  • Implements the organization's employee relations strategy to minimize the negative impact of individual team member grievances or collective labor disputes.

  • Interact with legal counsel on a regular basis to review trends, highly complex issues, points of concern for the company.

  • Manages the responses to local, State and Federal agency when a claim is filed against the company.

  • Investigates and ensures timely resolution of team member complaints of alleged discrimination, harassment and/or retaliation under the various employment laws.

  • Provides advice and counsel on a wide range of employee relations issues including progressive counseling, performance management, company policies and procedures, Title VII, ADA & ADAAA, ADEA, EEO, harassment/discrimination, and retaliation.

  • Assist in union avoidance activities (including but not limited to training and communication).

  • Manage and ensure the collection, analysis and reporting of data related to business operations and trends.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Employee Relations, Human Resources, or related experience is required.

  • Management experience is required.

  • Sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on the company’s success.

  • Ability to make decisions.

  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.

  • Extensive conflict resolution skills.

  • Excellent negotiating, consulting, influencing, collaboration and partnering abilities with business executives/leaders.

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to present and discuss complex information in a concise way that informs others and enhances understanding at all levels.

  • Acts with urgency and passion while remaining calm under pressure.

  • Sound judgment, critical thinker; exercises discretion with demonstrated ability to develop creative and innovative solutions to organizational issues.

  • Highly organized, time management, collaborative, and accountable, with the ability to prioritize and maintain a high level of productivity, and stellar internal customer service.

  • Strong analytical skills: ability to consistently track, interpret and act upon metrics results.

  • Technical HR knowledge – NLRA, EEO, FLSA, Federal/local laws including prevailing wage.

  • Strong computer skills (Outlook, MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Workday, HRIS experience)

After World War II, there existed the widespread need for do-it-yourself moving equipment that would be available on a one-way, nationwide basis. U-Haul co-founders L.S. "Sam" Shoen and his wife, Anna Mary Carty Shoen, recognized that need and acted upon it. Their visionary approach spread the cost of ownership among many users, facilitating the mobility of the populations of the U.S. and Canada. The covered wagon of the pioneers morphed into orange U-Haul trailers. In the process, an industry was born.
